Re: Favorite map/setting combo

World 2.1 6 players - 8 players (or 8 player doubles), sequential, flat rate (or no cards), unlimited (or chained)...no fog and of course public.

Re: Ways of defeating Australia on the classic map

My understanding was that in the US escalating was standard while in the UK flat rate was...certainly all the games I played at university were flat rate.

Not true that I haven't proposed a strategy. I suggested above that only Europe had the ability to effectively kill Australia and therefore ...

Re: Ways of defeating Australia on the classic map

Coming from the UK, I always played flat rate (though escalating was an option in the instructions).

With regards to my win percentage it will surely drop if I play more high ranked players.

I suspect one of the reasons for our argument in 'suggestions' might be the difference between escalating ...

Re: Ways of defeating Australia on the classic map

You've only played those settings (6p flat rate classic) 6 times total... not too much experience, although winning 66% of the time is by no means a bad percentage - before actually taking your word on the strategy however I think it would be best to get the number of games finished up, as I ...

Ways of defeating Australia on the classic map

To begin with, let us assume we are playing a classic, flat rate game with more than four players. Let us also assume that the fortifications might either be adjacent, chained or unlimited. Let us assume that the player in Australia has captured it and held it for a round with a large enough force ...

Re: Rank below cook needed- Waiter

As we all seem to agree that -400 points would in general suggest deliberate point dropping, how about having a rank of Deserter ? I like the Scout rank as well, but scouts are usually pretty decent soldiers (sometime even elite soldiers) and would probably fit better higher up the ranks.

So...

Re: Rank below cook needed- Waiter

If you want to start a flame wars thread where the main thrust of your argument is that cooks don't give a shit about this site (including the ones who have paid?), and anyone below a major is an incompetent retard, then start that thread and I'll even not go to the pub tonight.

It would be that ...

Agreed. I sent an e mail to Twill regarding a friend of mine who had been completely banned from the site (I felt unfairly as he hadn't cheated but merely point dropped a few hundred points) and three weeks later I have yet to receive a response.

Re: Rank below cook needed- Waiter

What's my score at this point...? Ah, 1602.

I DEEM that anyone with a score below 1602 should be classed as 'Incompetent'.

I DEEM that anyone with a score over 1602 should be classed as 'Genius'.

(Or)

I DEEM that anyone who happens to (by luck, skill or guile) achieve a rank of lieutenant by 40 ...

Re: Rank below cook needed- Waiter

There is no difference whatsoever amongst cooks whatever their rank - so why make a difference in rank? Personally - I would be fine if the cook rank extended all the way until rank 1200. I can't find even a slight difference between a person with a score of 800 vs 1200... they all just auto attack ...

Re: GOLDEN RULES to help lower ranks improve

I belive these are all good, but i don't think they are the most basic rules. These rules are great strategy plays but i was looking for very very basic easy to read rules. So easy that chefs and cadets could read and imploy. But good job on this one. 1. Always consider what every single player is ...

Re: GOLDEN RULES to help lower ranks improve

1. Always consider what every single player is doing and trying to do over the next 3 rounds.

2. Find a way to either win, survive or maintain over the next ten rounds and work towards that goal.

3. In the event that your strategy is flawed, accept the fact and adjust it.

4. Understand the ...

Re: Just curious. How many games you play at once?

At times I have had as many as 100+ going / waiting. I have trimmed that number back a good bit. I am slowly rising again though. I am at about 50 right now.

That is interesting. I have 20 ongoing games right now. And for the moment have no problem to remember which game I am playing right now. I ...

Re: GOLDEN RULES to help lower ranks improve

Guys and Girls, I had been playing RISK and other board games for a few years now, it seems when some people sit in on a game that when they see others about to cash in 3-5 cards they toss the golden rule book out the window and forget that the lower players could help them by not attacking them ...

Re: Signal Jamming: a worthwhile strategy?

I do this almost every turn in every fog game I play (which is the majority of my games) - never had anyone complain.

And yeah, sometimes every 1 goes on a different territory, and sometimes they all go in one place... most often it's a bit of both.

A couple times I've watched you play and seen ...

I have seen a few games where one player has very few countries left and is earning a pitiful 3 armies per turn while everyone else has a continent.

There is one game that I should never have won 1676647 . Early on i was badly decimated and decided to hole up in Madagascar for a while and build up ...

Re: Flat Rate Mistakes

I suspect our methods are not so different. For example, in an 8 player game I prefer to be 2nd or 3rd strongest into the mid. game...strong enough to build well, but not an obvious target. I think we we are in agreement with regards to pushing hard for territories before round 10 or so, as you just ...

Re: Flat Rate Mistakes

I don't play a lot of flat rate for some of the reasons stated already in this thread, but it's all relative to your existing opponents. When you're speaking about return value for the armies you're using to make the kill, sure at times its not worth burning 25 armies for a chance at a mix set but ...

I am also interested (I have so much to learn) but would rather concentrate on sequential, flat rate, no fog (naturally) adjacent or chained Classic Risk.

I really like this idea and I will also start a private game right this minute!

Re: freestyle or sequential?

I have found that freestlye rewards the player who can literally sit at their computer (or relatively near it) for a couple of weeks. Those that have a life however, are going to be punished for it, at least on 2.1.

I've played two freestlye 2.1 games (yeah, noobie I know) and won them both, yet I ...
