Re: Games Awaiting Players

I usually agree with you Owen, but your complaint is that boring settings aren't as common any more. Fog makes things more interesting and obviously the majority agree.
there used to be at least 3 pages of available games for that "boring" setting... don't forget, there are many sub-sets of ...

Re: The Decline of 8 Player Freestyle Speed Games

Back in the day (heh heh) the suspicion was that the freestyle double turn allowed the most grevious kinds of farming (on speed dubs, 1 vs 1 etc) and was abolished for that reason.

Interestingly, back then a player like demonfork was able to post + 6000 scores (as was herpes, rabbiton) from ...

On the ipad and am still finding the site harder to navigate than before. Now being an incompetent I would be tempted to blame myself, however judging by the other comments...

I DO like the new colour-coded deploy/assault/fort buttons..they are pretty cool.

Generally I have been pleased with the ...

Re: Strategy for large, no spoils, standard, classic

Game 13495969 is a 12 player (now 8 player) Standard no spoil game on the classic map in round 14. I'm finding myself reasonably strong but without a continent and am at lost as to what a good strategy in this situation would be.

Since its not terminator, there's little benefit in me eliminating ...

Beyond the frankly disturbing conversation above (and I can remember when natty was that innocent chap with the spunk-worthy avatar...What happened to you natty??? ) one can but hope CC will still be here in five years. I have no idea how I'd occupy myself at work without CC.. :)

Re: Congratulations to the people of Tiananmen Square

The event was about freedom of the people not economic strength and more shoe styles in the stores.

Protests generally only occur because the protestors are unsatisfied/frustrated with their individual lives. The protestors in 1989 were mostly poor, bored students.

Maybe economic growth and ...

Re: Congratulations to the people of Tiananmen Square

It is perfectly possible that the Chinese chap in the photo simply wasn't paying attention in a 'I thought that bao zi stall was just across the street' kind of way. We in the west have marked it down as the ultimate example of oriental bravery, personally I think the chap had his mind on finding a ...

Re: USA 2.1

In response to this thread, late due to RL, this may not be my best map, as thenobodies80 has mentioned we really need a better UI for this. The names in the legend "COULD" fit on the map, but would anyone be able to read the names easily. This is the best alternative I could think of. Now IF ...

Re: How to Legitimately Point Dump

why would somebody dump points?
i mean sure, there are rage quitters that start a gazillion games then never log back in, thus dumping all their points. but if you're a rage quitter then you don't need a point dumping strategy.

Its fun to have a "Yay i made colonel" moment all over again.

Re: USA 2.1

It's a fun team map on fog. There's lot of places to lie low, take over a few states, sneak in some bonuses. The gameplay factor is pretty high for me.

Yes, overall I give it 8/10, partly because it is the first map I have been able to really see the point of nukes in large standard games.

Re: USA 2.1

As a game it has many positive points (try it large standard nukes)..the problem is I think that if you aren't using BOB it is a big challenge to make yourself read what is going on. I loved it when I was using BOB, now I'm not and so am not setting up anymore games on it.

As a lover of large maps ...

Re: Strategy guide for newbies like me who really suck?

It seems like I'm always losing:

1. If I play defensively, my opponents just wipe out my armies because attackers have the statistical edge.
2. If I go on the attack, then I just die in the counterattack or else some other person wipes me out because I weakened myself in the attack.
3. If I get ...

It does seem to have a stabilized around 12300-12400.

1. At what level would you consider the number to be so low that a CC-addict like me should start to worry?
2. At what level would you consider the number to be high enough ...

I feel some are rather confused about the meaning of 'impossible'. Now I know the slack-jawed amongst us may well like to create their own definitions of words, however I think google's is pretty good: Not able to occur, exist, or be done.

Agree with BBS on 2. The EU let Estonia in, it's not like we're talking about some elite club here. It appears they'll basically take anyone with a pulse. I kinda think of the EU as the Arizona State University of international organizations.

Five questions I think the 'nats' need to answer..

1. What's going to happen to RBS?
2. Is Scotland going to be able to join the EU?
3. What currency are they going to use?
4. Are they going to be able to borrow at rates which are affordable?
5. Are they going to be their own lender of last resort?

@loutil..

I never said it was not possible to have a tactical advantage. I even acknowledge as much in my response. What I said was that it was not enough of an advantage to create a 70% win rate against higher ranked/better opponents. Your 55% win rate against equal opposition clearly shows a ...
