Map descriptions[moderated]

Postby gimil on Tue Jan 06, 2009 9:42 am

I have just PM'ed every single person that has ever been involved in the development of a map to give a few lines description of their maps. This thread will be used to compile all those descriptions to transfer over to database for chipvto use.

Please don't post anything other than descriptions in here, it will make the project much easier to work with :)

If you didn't recieve the PM and you have your own map please if you could be so kind fill out this form for your map making a description no more than a few lines (small paragraph) long.

Map Description:

There are multiple options for bonuses which don't follow the basic continent style and can be used to eliminate your opponents or help hold an objective.

Map name: Haiti

Two connections across land are also indicated on the map.

I'm not sure if this is too much to ask but could we have a brief list of non-standard features as well please especially for newer maps?

So just list these at the end.

Adjusted Territory Bonus
Instead of your standard +1 for every 3 territories, after 9 territories, the territory bonus amounts have been adjusted to give out differently.

Autodeploy / Decay
Armies are automatically placed or taken away from specific territories on the map. If taken away the total army count on the territory cannot go below one.

Buildings

Multiple territories in one area of the map are represented by a single territory in another part of it.

Bombardments
Some territories bombard instead of attacking. After the attacker wins in a bombardment the defending territory is replaced with a neutral army and the attacker cannot advance.

Capitals
A specific form of double dipping that appears as a single or a group of single strategic territories.

Collections
Unlike continents these only require a specific amount of the designated territories to gain a bonus.

Conquest Gameplay
Players only start with a small number of territories and must conquer most of the map away from neutrals before reaching other players.

Dead Space
There are territories that don't provide any sort of continent bonus.

Double Dipping
Territories show up in multiple continents.

Killer Neutral Territories
If you hold one it will revert to it's original neutral value when you begin your turn!

Naming Confusion
The territory names are written in a complex way occasionally causing deployment mistakes.

Negative Bonus
There are negative bonuses on the map so that you lose armies instead of gaining armies for holding certain combinations of areas.

One Way Borders

Borders where attacks can only occur in a single direction.

Out of Play
Through bombardments and one way borders a portion of the map can be taken out of play for the remainder of the match if bombed out.

Ranged Attack
Some territories on the map are connected without touching.

Starting Positions
This map contains start positions, meaning players will start with one or more of a preset group of territories.

Strategic Resources
Instead of continents specific territories or combinations of territories provide bonuses.

Trapped Territory
Due to one way borders there is no way to attack out of the territory.

Victory Condition
Players can win by holding a set of specified territories instead of eliminating the other players.

Map name: Battle for Iraq!
map Description: War in the middle east is complex web of loyalties and tough decisions. This map includes the realities and situations you will find when entering the quagmire of the Iraq War. Territorial victories can be obtained, but it may be wise to align your self with a particular faction, be it the good or bad guys, all sides have strengths and weaknesses. Even courting the various religious and ethnic segments can score you points. A win in this region will require a deep strategy and knowledge of the region.

gimil, I know it's not quenched, but it's just a matter of time before the process is finished, so I'll do Antarctica now if that's ok:

Map Name: Antarctica
Map Description: Due to climate change, the Antarctic ice has partially melted, revealing the rich and fertile lands beneath. Pressures on global powers leads to the nullification of the Antarctic Treaty, paving the way for sovereign nations to access previously untapped resources. Direct your fleet to favourable landing points, establish beachheads, and strive for the South Pole. Once there, call in air strikes on your opponents fleets, cutting their supply lines so that you can safely eliminate their territories and claim Antarctica as your own!
Territories: 57
Starting Territories: 8
Gameplay Features: Adjusted Territory Bonus, Autodeploy, Bombardment, Conquest Gameplay, Negative Bonus, One Way Borders, Out of Play, Ranged Attack, Starting Positions (?not sure about this one?)

All of these descriptions have been put on the map info webpages.

It's a good opportunity to sell your own map!

(Check out cairnswk's descriptions, these are good examples of how to do it)

ASIA and USA were original CC maps. Lack had someone make them for the start. SO they have no "carto" author and their dates are the day CC began.

Classic Shapes and Centerscape were done to replace the original classic (launched with the two mentioned above) and Middle Earth made by Mr. K
The author is not known except by the sig Lynn. But whatever that means.

Yes I know that.

I'm hoping someone can put up a description for them. I can ask lack, but I'm sure he'd be ok if an experienced mapmaker gave a description also.
