I do like the look, it might be a decent idea to see if the color could be a tad stronger. Yeah the 888's are really making the map look at it's worst. We know the 888's fit, let's just see it with the 2's and go from there.

The main problem is the rail! It's too thick, I know it's supposed to take center stage but it does that at the expense of harmony! You have to look real hard to see where the territories borders are when you've got that thick line covering all of it! If you don't want to change the width of the rail maybe you could give it another color? Dark red?? Right now it's causing this map to look a lot harder to read than it really is! Also I don't like how the rivers look! There's something with them but I can't put the finger on it :-k !

just to help in this rail issue
have you considered putting some reddish tint in it
so it would be enough different from the borders

in the legend, the polish border one-way attacks minsk. is it the intention that the polish border one-way attacks minsk oblast, but not the city itself?

vladamir ought to be vladimir. u had changed it on a previous version. however, the error has somehow crept back.

ian. :)

just a heads up and sort of update: i was living in japan and then woke up to a giant headache and left sideparalysis,...it was a massive stroke.. some stranger came to my door unexpectedly and called an ambulance.. he probably saved my life. anyway, i chilled out in the hospital in tokyo for a while then my mom came and brought me home to the usa for treatment, which is where I'm at now... i can give more details when i have two fully functioning hands to type and thenI'll be able to work on the map some more

Ka-kow, Update:

I looked through the thread to try and find what the big issues I was having were
1) the British flag was obscuring the B in British.
2) there needed to be a city icon in the legend.

So I did both those things

Then someone mentioned that all the numbers might be 'asploding their brains with info overload or cluttering up the image... so I did this version sans numbers.

Then I'm going to just use my mod powers to move this on back.

:o

Kidding. :D

One thing I like about the aesthetic of this map---and don't take it the wrong way---is that is has a crayon and drawing sort of feel to it in terms of color application and texture.

I think the areas that are less 'crayon-like' stand out to me then, like: cities on the map, the commander letterboxes, the flags are borderline.

I think pushing the map too far to crayon and drawing and doodle earth is certainly not the way to go, but it seems like a strong element within the map.

Best of luck,

--Andy

The graphics of this map are pretty great, there's not much critique to be handed out... the only issue I can see is the same old, the railroads.

They're still somewhat distracting in the moscow area... I think what you could try is to make the railroad lines really thin, like they've drawn with a really thin ink pen...

sigh... the railroads :( To be honest, I'm satisfied with them, because I think they're as improved at they can be. I think I tried thinner rail lines before, but the got lost in the rest of the map.

Hmm... I just noticed I'm green approved... now to get some blue ink...

I searched the thread but didn't find this small needed change.

"Pink designates ares of high population" I'm assuming this is supposed to be areas.

How about thin lines but make them double lines to resemble railway more... with a lower opacity maybe...
