Hi guys, first a big thank you to Wisse who helped me more than any tutorial has done!!
This map is commerate the 25th Anniversray of the Falklands War....
This is just a very rough draft and i know i have along way to go but with the help of the Foundry i know i will get there in the end. I had fun making this map...
However i wonder if anyone knows why i cant use the pattern stamp or even write on lettering on the Map... I can draw on the blue seas but when i come to pattern stamp the black islands its not letting me!!!
Also i want to blend in the destroyer warships but not sure how to do it???
Lastly i patterened stamped the whole area and it looks quite messy...Is there an easier way... I tried filling but it wouldnt let me!!
As for gamestyle... I want to make the islands very important to this map...Any ideas???? I thought maybe the islands could ahve a small bonus and attack the mainlands, but the mainlands could not attack back?!?!
Then the destroyer warships could only attack the islands?!?
The little island inbetween the 2 largest Islands is not going to be part of all Islands.. It is part of no continent but is a important stepping stone to conquering all 4 Mainlands territotires
So what do you think? Any ideas?

The war was when argentina invaded the falklandlands which was claimed as british land at the time
as for the map, its a gd idea, i like the draft. although im not to excited by the boats. the one with the white background would look alright if the white was taken away and the boat looked like it was in the water. Maby less green and yellow in the colors as well

the Falklands war is a good example where politicians used to War to keep there Government in power and this was done from both sides...
Google it.
It was also the first war where air power was the main offensive weapon...Much like present day Iraq and Bosnia vs Nato war

hate thatcher, blair tried to use the iraq war in the same manner, that completely backfired lol .
btw in regards to the map, I find it quite dark I don't know about anyone else but it would be nicer lightened slightly

Hulmey, have you got your drawings in layers, and what program are you using? Perhaps you are drawing on a layer that is underneath another layer. Have you got the sea right over the top of everything. Also check the locks if you're using layering, that can stop you from righting/drawing on something.

just once I'd liketo see a cartographer follow the foundry protocol and post basic required info about the map: how many countries, continents, special gameplay features, etc.
I actually think this is a fun idea for a map - there's a lot of work to do, but this is a modern war on a scale that actually works as a map.
Gameplay questions: how many territories? continents? initial thoughts on bonuses? impassable borders? why are some islands black? not part of a bonus area? they look like they don't belong at all. The ships are territories, yes? Good idea. Would there be a bonus for owning all of them?
Graphics issues: the ships don't fit... they look like cartoons. Could you find some photos of the actual ships that took part in the battle? There are plenty of photos of Ardent going down, Harriers taking off, etc.
I assume the swirlies between islands are attack routes? they're weird and confusing.
The black on some islands is temporary, yes?

It seems the

if you are going to put boats into the map i think you should remove the surroundings of the boat on the pictures
for example remove the white from the one between the two islands

thanks for the interest guys and gals....
Pls read my first post carefully to see why the black islands are as they are and also why the ships are in blocks and not blended...
This was my first try so was just experimenting but wanted to post this map to see if there is any need to continue!!!
Chck out this Map and see what version for playability you all prefer???
England lauched airattacks from aircraft carriers and parts of North Afirca....Argentina atatcked and sunk british destroyers with Exocet missiles supplied by the French.

These are details im waitng for the foundry to put forward their opinons!! Also havent decided on map style...
Should i include Argentina and parts of Africa into the battle and cut down ont the siz of the Flaklands Isle??

i had a confussion like this when i started learning fireworks. it turned out i was trying to work on a layer that was locked. after unlocking it it worked like a charm.
about writting, i also encountered this problem and it turned out i was writing on a layer that was in the back of another one. i wrote and after i clicked ok it all dissappeared. so i moved the text in the foreground layer.
hulmey wrote:Also i want to blend in the destroyer warships but not sure how to do it???
take an image in a new file. use the magic wand to select the parts you don't want and then right click and select inverse marquee. now the marquee has selected only the object without the background. then click convert to path. now you'll have 2 layers. select both and then select group as mask. and voila!. this is for fireworks. don't know if it is the same in photoshop, but it should be similar.
hulmey wrote:Lastly i patterened stamped the whole area and it looks quite messy...Is there an easier way... I tried filling but it wouldnt let me!!
to fill something with a pattern in photoshop, select the "something" righ click and click on fill. then select pattern and hit ok.
maybe you did not select the thing.

LOL...i not it aint the best map in the World!!!!
But either the Foundry has gone quiet (is that possible??) or this map dont interest anybody.
Hmmm, well i will give it a few days and if no interest i will pull the plug!
I have a far better idea and at least now i got a better feel for photoshop!!

Black words are hard to read on some of the other colors. Brighten them so black stands out a bit more. I like the idea, build on it.

The map is very texture heavy. Try toning everything down and making it a bit easier on the eye.

Ok liam, i already done another one and the wording is White and is much better...
Keyogi which texture are you referring too? I like the Mainland Textures because it reminds me of a hilly rugged land (as the falklands is).
however im not satisfied with the Sea...The colour think is too bright!?!

I think both textures need to be reduced in opacity/transparency. Strong textures provide too much contrast which makes the map hard on the eyes. Also makes things like text and borders hard to distinguish.

I HAVE CHANGED COUNTRY NAMES TO WHITE...aLSO REDUCED OPATCITY TO 80%.
I left teture how its is coz thats the hily feel i want for the Falklands.
Also changed pattern for Falklands name and gave it a military grey feel..
The sea has been darkened but the sea next to falklands has a lighter to feel so it looks shallower.
Anymore suggestions would be welcomd please
