ok so during photoshop class at school the tutorial gave us a map, so i've been spending all my time in that class making it a map here's what I have so far.
Most Recent Update
Crucial Info# of Countries: 40 Countries
Comments: Points of interest on this map are that it is just plain old classic risk, but i also want to keep it from getting too cluttered. You are fighting over the Caspian sea. I would like to keep sea routes minimal but realize there is a need for 1 or 2 sea routes to keep the ladder effect from completely taking over. Any input would be nice.
Still to do: -Make a mountain look to replace the leaves.
-Finish cleaning up the depth factor near the legend in the black sea
Ongoing DebatesNone; General consensus is needs mountains and it's mostly done besides that(at least it seems that way).

This kinda looks like the Ohio map imploded.
Some of the continents 10-12 territories. I think you could combine some of them or split up the continents. Any more than 7 territories for a continent is a headache.

It looks interesting, but it could definitely be trimmed down by maybe six territories. Right now I think there's a bit too many, but that's just me, I like small maps.

Split purple into two different continents, add a few more boundaries, and bonuses. Looking good.

Not much attraction to me. graphically pretty plain at the moment, and do you really think people are gonna want to battle over the Caspian Sea?
Anyway, if enough people like it then obviously I'm wrong but its just my opinion.

*cough* ... classic ... *cough* ... Asia ... *cough*
Btw, this map looks good. Do the bonuses on it resemble some known area or are they chosen randomly?

Well, this is me working with what i've been given. This was a map on a tutorial in photoshop class and I just began working on it being a risk map. I'll play any map as long as it's well done, and I hope to do that. I'm sure the community feels the same way with the king of the mountains, senate, and CCU maps. King of the Mountains being very popular.
My problem is how do I add more to add a title and stuff and keep it looking normal.

Is this going to be set in any specific time period?
Are you planning to include sea routes?
I know you're only at a rough draft stage, but it's a bit hard to give any constructive feedback with so little done.
I guess I can comment on the visual elements. The continent colours and textures are good, but the bubble texture of the water looks a bit out of place. Perhaps work on those borders now and save yourself the trouble later. They're very thin and jagged, so maybe try playing with layer effects and see if you can bulk them up and smooth them out.

1. It was more of a caspian sea map given in computers class so I didn't really have a time set except for that it's a map of the region.
2. I wasn't planning on it, but if someone believes there is one that will help playability I'm all ears.
3. I will attempt to work on the borders now.
Also what do people think of the mountains?

Create a new layer in PS and add the legend.
Then duplicate it and experiment with them. changing fonts, adding drop shades.etc. The only way to go is to experiment.
Then post the ones you like best here and wait for feedback.

Well, I know that much, my problem is. The map takes up the whole canvas, I can't for the life of me figure out how to add to the canvas without it looking cheesy.

You could extend the mat to the right and in that empty field create the legend. I did something similar on my Senate map, but there I added to the bottom.
Or you could use the Sea?

I was looking into that possibility, I hope I can do as good of a job.

Is this progress?
Or does it look worse. I'm aware the border situation in purple/blue isn't good but other than that what do you guys think?

Syria et al. is the same colour as the Sea.

I don't see that as being a problem due to the sea not being a country.

All text needs crisping up. The countrynames are a bit on the small side.
The legend title is good. Try using the same font for the bonuses (but smaller and in colour of course).
Try a very pale blue for Syria. The darker shade is too remenicient of water.
Remember, keep it inuitive and don't take for granted that other people have prior knowlege of the area.

42 Countries
Unpassable borders, and borders in general will be added I just figured I'd get this up in case gimil felt compulsed to want to draw my borders for me hint hint. The style will follow mostly in the images above, this was mainly an aesthetic revamp and I feel it's looking better.
Also, this should be moved to Map Ideas.
