For a draft you have all of the elements. :D But where are you going to take this?

Do not know if you have ever play this, but the style would look great with this map.

Nah, I'm going for a simple 80's theme with colors, and the little story on the top right. Along with the title in the font from that 80's cop show Miami Vice! Like koontz picked up on.

I feel like there should be some sort of yellow in the map...something like this:

Maybe change the color of the northernmost bonus zone to a color like that? Or the westernmost zone?

And it should be "Intracoastal Islands".

Miami Vice, all that pink and tight T-shirts. Adding a little art deco to round it all of and you might have something worth playing.

What are the impassables going to be?

Planning a little something more, and the impassables - once I get them to my liking - roads. At least I have where they are going for now.

Looks like it could be a decent small map. Look forward to seeing the development.

great work, guys. this map called my attention because i am from miami. i'm not sure i get what the "greater miami" bonus name refers to, though. better to call that bonus Broward? It seems you have drawn the line to be the county line?

Thank you!! Name changed as suggested as it is Broward County.

Changes made:
Added Roads are Impassable to the legend
    Added roads as impassables
Changed Inter-coastal Islands to Intracoastal Islands
    Changed Greater Miami to Broward

That is it for now!!

isaiah, know this was just a small one as you are busy elsewhere but here is what I am thinking. You opening line in the thread and the map states...
Put on your parachute pants, hop in your Yugo, and crank up Gloria Estefan, because we're going to Miami!

But I am not getting this from the map itself. Are you planning to give it more flavour in style or even putting symbols on the map like Copenhagen? Something that says 80s Miami.

Does this say 80s Miami? What does a Yugo have to do with Miami?

That got me nothing nole. A-Team van, Magnums Ferrari, Delorian from BTTF, Batmobile and Kitt from knightrider. All famous cars, but what do they have to do with Yugo or Miami. Or did I miss something?

Well, I don't think there is a car that is specifically associated with Miami. But those cars I linked are famous cars from the 80's.

Well in the 80's people wore those silly things called parachute pants, some even drove those $3000 brand new cars called Yugo's, and Gloria Estefan is from Miami.

I will be adding in a couple background pics, when I can find some suitable public domain (that I don't have to pay for) ones.

What's with all the straight lines? Looks a bit like how the british and french divided up Africa :) .

I tried to do the borders along the streets of Miami, though I took some creative liberties and either expanded or reduced the areas. For the most part, these regions are actual cities in and around the Miami/Greater Miami area.

I've never liked straight border lines. Looks so artificial. Harder to envision it as a real map.

If they are based off streets though, that means they are pretty artificial.

From my perception of America from TV and films, most roads are straight lines there. Keep them as straight as you like.

I still don't like how it looks estetically on maps. Even when it follows actual real life borders.

Americans are famous though for straight roads so these are pretty realistic.

A couple of observations isaiah.

Any texture going onto this map at all? Something very simple for now. ;) Background pictures. Some talk of this, any luck finding any? The red, will the army numbers be lost on that? I noticed that on the map you posted, it has a couple of airports, will these go on in any way? Maybe allow them to attack each other. I notice the Miami flag has orange and green on it, would these colours find them selves on the map at some point?

Excuse me for asking this, but why does your map have different boundaries and names compared to this one?

A comment regarding the roads if I may. I agree they look artificial, but only because you are only using certain portions of the roadway. I understand what you are trying to do, though. Any way to include the entire road and allow crossings where you want them? I can't think of any examples of maps that do that at the moment. If you go that route, I could suggest the primary roads to include: the Palmetto, US1, 836 = the Dolphin Expressway, 874 = the Don Shula Expressway, the Turnpike - although this one is mostly off your map to the west (pm me if u want).

You can also use something like rows of palm trees to be impassable? Or canals - although they may not be very pretty? Miami is littered with canals and makes driving frustrating sometimes.

koontz1973 wrote:I notice the Miami flag has orange and green on it, would these colours find them selves on the map at some point?

Since the mapmakers are going for an 80's theme, any orange and green should be Univ of Miami, as the Hurricanes were huge during this time period. nolefan may not like it, though!
