i think you should add nordic natuions, but it should be like in new world, they are an autod-deploy and maybe cant attack each other

Well, this was started before the england map came out of the recycling bin, it just took me a while because I was busy. Besides, it is very different. This uses different territories, time period and concept. This is a map about the coming of the Danish to England, not England as a place.
LED ZEPPELINER wrote:i think you should add nordic natuions, but it should be like in new world, they are an autod-deploy and maybe cant attack each other

I'm not sure that would work, because not all the Nordic nations came to conquer/settle England.

There are so many maps of this region that you would need a special theme for this to work. The green territory at the top should be divided unless it will be used for a fun game play enhancer. Try and play with the boats and see if the idea works for the map and if not then try something else. The graphics look fine and now you need to think of a theme...

Get to work and this can be a great map!

There are not any maps of england or wales yet and this one does have a theme so it should be fine. The green territory is Scotland an is as of now a non playable territory. This is where the bonuses can go. For the graphics i wanted it to look old and sort of primitive but those changes can come later.

you say there is a theme, but in the map, it is just a map of england and whales, you need to incorporate your theme into the map or this will just be another england map(which there is already another one in the drafting room) and a whales one (about to be quenched soon)

Like i said in the first post we're still adding territories and have to move slow as el presidente is busy in RL. The theme is the Danish invasion of England(more commonly known as Danelaw). Not much of the gameplay is set in stone and thats why we need other peoples opinions on the Nordic nations and whether or not we should have them.Along with some other gameplay elements were throwing around

Quick Update.Added in the Nordic Nations and took out a couple of ships. They are Denmark, Finland, iceland, Sweden, and Norway. They can attack each other where there borders meet and will only be accesabile to the outside by two to three ships

Now should we leave them like they are or cut them off and make them seem kinda like new world with the countries seperated

I like this a lot. But....
1 Iceland should be moved closer to scandanavia.
2 the ships could be a little smaller.
3 you should add 3 ships to get 72 territoriess. It is a better number.
4 The southern most territory of wales that borders mercia should be pert of mercia I think.
5 The large grey one (york i beleive) seems too large. mabey devide it?
6 Try to add territoy names soon.

6 Try to add territoy names soon. I am working on it but again, everything changed a lot and there isn't a realy reliable map that Is from one specific time and so names change.

Er... is Finland (!) attacking Britain? That seems a bit... weird. I guess you've heard this to death already, but Danes (and perhaps some Norweigians) went for Britain (and France). While Swedish vikings mostly went for Russia. And Fins... well... suffered from the Swedes, I guess.

I'd love to see a Viking map, perhaps with a slightly broader view, covering the combat zones where each Scandinavian nation went and where they met with resistance. Maybe even covering Byzantium and the Varangian guard. Like the idea, but it seems a bit frivolous with history. Don't mind that it's a British map, the viking theme makes for something new. But IMHO you'd have to exclude pretty much every nation except for Danes.

Another twist would be to make it more "Arthurian", say - a map based on the Pendragon RPG (if anybody here knows what I'm getting at).

Sorry for being critical. Would like to see a viking invasion themed map. Your idea is sound, just needs some development in my opinion. Good luck!

In the new version Finland will not attack england, rather it can attack Denmark which can attack cirtain places in England and Wales Via the ships.
Also, A viking Europe map would be neat but this is not that. There was an attempt that is now in the recycling bin if you want to check that out. This, however, focuses on the Danish invasion of England.
A more complete version will be up very soon which will have ship connections, bonuses, and territory names!

Well, I think you should focus on the Danes attacking England, then, to be frank. Replacing your sub-map of Scandinavia with a detailed map of Denmark, for instance. Having Finland in it at all is just silly. Whereas the Swedes is highly unlikely and the Norweigians is odd. Just my 5 cents.

Isn't is just my 2 cents?
And I kinda agree. Above a lot of people wanted an inset of the Nordic nations but just having Denmark works better.

Ah, well, English isn't my native language. :)

And hey, reason I'm commenting is because this map has great promise! I'd say, go for a more focused theme and skip the other Scandinavian nations altogether, like you say. That'd be way cool!

On a side note Denmark and Sweden are ancient arch-enemies, so I shouldn't really promote them at all. It just... feels better, for this particular setup. ;)

Following this with great interest! Just so you know.

Well, I will work on a new version with just Denmark in order to get a comparison.
Here is the newer version (i'll put it up just because naxus isn't online)

Changes.
    1 Bonuses added
    2 Names added
3 Attack routes for ships added
    4 Ships made smaller.
5 Something else that I am forgetting right now

It looks realy buisy IMO right now but I don't know how to fix that.

Historically the Danes managed ships better than the english and were more mobile.
For a special theme, Denmark having 1 way access to all ships but only some ships having 2 way access to parts of Denmark.

Also how about Denmark being broken into 4 clans with one terit for each. Different clans having access to different ships.

Reduce the number of english territories.

Rig it so the 4 Danish clans are connected directly (besides the ships) through a killer neutral territory
or a territory with a tremendous penalty to army bonus unless you already own 2 or 3 clans.

1) Background is kinda bleh. How about a parchment background??? Theres a good one found here: http://forum.cartographersguild.com/sho ... .php?t=533 , you may need to join to see it though. Or, there is this link to download the .pdf version: http://forum.cartographersguild.com/att ... 1178255480 (also may need to join to get it)

2) Everything on this map is squished. Looks like you took England, used a hammer, and started hammering on poor old scotland :( (lol sorry just a metaphore for how I see as you squishing it, please don't take offense :) ). I see the the demmenisions of your map are 740x700, so you can increase the size by 100x100, and then you can have more room to "un-squish" England.

3) This map is very very VERY busy. Names overlap borders, gameplay text is everywhere, and area names just look planted wherever the feel like being. Try uncrowding it a bit and this map will be much more likeable

4) To get more room, you can probably move england up a bit.

more later, g2g eat now :)
