I disagree with this. I look at the map with the '888' think I could play a whole speed game on it without feeling distracted by the background.

I think I'm more with Isaiah on this.

i like the background as it is

Hm, seems like this is one of these "subjective" things I keep hearing about...

I'd rather keep the background as it is, I really doubt it's going to cause any problems. But if it does, I can reconsider the decision then.

I think this is one of those times I didn't make myself clear. The background on the non-playable area is good, IMHO, perfect. It's the playable area that I have problems with. Decrease the transparency of the bonus areas until the back ground is barely showing through. I hope this makes more sense.

No, I got what you meant, still disagree though. I'm pretty happy with the opacity of the background on the playable area. I don't think it's going to be a problem.

Sorry to make a post like this, but I really don't like this map.

As a Londoner I've always wanted a good London map ever since the NYC one came out and I saw what could be done in a city. There's nothing overly bad about this attempt, the artwork is fine, but it feels like such a waste of potential. There doesn't seem much creativity or imagination in just taking a map of the boroughs and adding a few impassables.

I guess it's what I get for not learning photoshop and doing it myself!

Sorry to hear that, but there's really nothing stopping you from making another London map with different gameplay. This is purposefully a small and simple map, which will be optimal for quick speed games and 2v2 team games.

Indeed. All in all, I'll still play on the map. ;)

Nice work so far.

I could just remove the bonus names from the large version as well. I don't think they're strictly necessary, and I'm starting to think they don't necessarily add anything to the map, besides clutter it up.

While reading this whole conversation, I was thinking this was Patch Wars for some reason... I was like, wait, I thought gimil couldn't stare at the map for 5 seconds let alone play an entire speed game, then isaiah mentioned decreasing opacity, and I'm like, "What? How is that going to help?" Then I saw the map and my face is soon hit by my palm.

#-o

Pay no attention to that old man hiding behind the curtain in embarrassment...

P.S. Uhhh, looks good! Though I kinda liked the bonus names. Heh...

natty, not sure if it has been discussed, but is there any chance you could move the red around to the North bonus area. Either move each colour round one or just swap over the north and north west. I ask as the red is the strongest colour there and now that you have included Camden in it, it looks strange (best way for me to describe it) having the red sticking out like that. Also, it is the first thing my eye goes to, so having it at the top centre would be more a natural place.

I tried putting red on top but I don't know if it works...
I'm not sure why, it just looks kinda off:

Your right, it does not work up at the top. Could it be that red is a bolder colour than the others? Not sure how to change it, but as Camden is now part of the NW, I am not sure any colour change will suit it. Go with what you feel.

Ok, I solved the issue by making Southeast darker - it's opposite to northwest so it should balance the palette.

It look better. Now my eyes are fighting over two places. Not a bad thing as it does balance it out. It is just that pesky Camden. I understand the GP reason for the change to include Camden into the NW, but it does bugger the look up. It was nicer on the eye before the Camden change.

Could I ask you to make the ends of the impassables into points like the one ending at Camden. Right now, that and the river end in points. The other two just stop. Also, the City text looks lighter. Any change of making it darker to look like the other.

The city text is light on purpose, it's so it doesn't clash with the army numbers. But I'll do the impassables.

Where does the Kensington troop count go? It looks pretty crammed in there with the full name. Islington is close too.

What if you toned down the red a bit? I feel like my eye naturally gravitates toward it specifically.
