Well, it seems pretty similar to the current one. Is the only difference the aircraft bonus?

Anyway, either version seems good to me. It kinda makes sense to make the aircraft powerful, and if people really want the old version back then by all means give them what they want... doesn't matter much to me as I mostly play escalating these days ;)

After much ado, the decision has been made to revert to the historic Pearl Harbor map, which put more of the gameplay focus on the aeroplanes.

While there were plenty of thoughtful suggestions for finding some middle-ground between the original and the altered version, these have been put to one side in lieu of the tried-and-tested (and preferred) original version, which is 2 posts (^^) above this one.

On behalf of cairnswk and the foundry, I would like to thank everybody who voted in the GD poll, and particularly those who shared their opinions. The 'updated' map will go live in due course; in the meantime I have closed down the map for new games in order to minimise the effect of the reload on active games.

Many thanks,

Good stuff, glad to see we're back to assaulting the Hawaiian islands in the old method.

I do wish that the one-way between the Control Tower and California were a two-way. You can control well over half the map with Oklahoma (assuming that you get the left side and upper side of the map).

good point... that choke point is big. a player owning the upper/left part of the map controls 30+ in bonuses while the bottom/right is (roughly) around 20. the upper map need only defend Oklahoma to protect nearly everything from invasion.

I've been checking the number of active games to see when if gets to a low enough level to enable me to post in each game chat to alert people of the gameplay change.

There were 70-something active games when I last checked, and there are 62 now. At this rate I expect it'll be around 1-2 weeks before it's back up.

I know this map has been quenched, but I have to post this. I just started my first game on this map (Game 7755522), a 6 player game, and the first person to go had a bonus of +4 (from having 12 territs), and the next person had a bonus of +12! I had a bonus of +9. In a 6 player game, these high bonuses, and especially the deviations in them, are very alarming. Was this really intentional?

Yes, and this map justifies it. It has been discussed many times, over and over, but then we don't expect you to read the thread.
