There is more I can say about this map, but after making a move for a buddy in a game on this map, the transcontinental bonus is way too unclear. Just because it says it somewhere doesn't mean it is clear. I think more can and should be done to clear that up. In general I like this map but it is difficult to read.

Could you clarify 'unclear', and what you'd suggest that could possibly improve it?
My guess is, without trying to offend you, that you're simply angry cause you've made a mistake in not paying enough attention.

That is an idiotic response. It wasn't even my game. Other than that, the only reason I commented here is because I think this can be improved (though I'd leave exactly if or how up to the artist). There is no personal "anger" over an unclear map.

Unclear = not readily transparent. It is pretty clear that it is an issue when you go back and read the log and the guy I subbed for had the same confusion as did I. There are many ways to make it more transparent. But I think that if it is made transparent the map will be better off for it. One issue that could contribute is the color itself (brown is not a bold color but blends in a bit). The isolated territory is rather small and it is hard to even see the brown unless you know it is there. The font in the legend is tiny and easily missed. This isn't an issue that breaks the map, but it certainly could be more clear and I think it should be.

But even though it's brown and not so big... Anyone who really pays attention and looks out over the map to place the continents can see it, right? It's even repeated in the legend inset, and there is an explanatory phrase. It may be small aswell, but honestly, don't people read the whole map before starting to play? I sure do.
I'm sorry if I was wrong saying you posted this because of your own mistake. That may have been idiotic indeed. It's just that a lot of people have come here to complain for exactly that reason, and I still think that's undeserved. But as I said, I didn't mean to offend you.

Quick question that isn't real clear on the legend.

Say you hold everything related to Italy, and the two "Red Medi" islands. Does this give you the both the Italian and Medi bonuses even though the second +3 is only 2 extra islands?

Yes, because the bonuses overlap ā€” the 5 islands can come from any set of bonuses, or as many as you please.

So if Transcontinental has a 4 man bonus and Motherland has 1 woulden't Transcontinental have 5 total.

Yes, and no. You do get the +5, but it is a result of the +4 from Trans. and +1 from Motherland.

Europa : bug with Transcontinental reinforcement

Postby olivier101 on Sat Aug 22, 2009 2:37 am

Hi,

I'm playing in Game 5443226 and I am holding Transcontinental for several rounds (without Kgd) but get no reinforcement (+4) for it. Is there a bug ??

there's no bug, olivier. for the benelux bonus, u must hold all pink regions. similarly, for the transcontinental bonus, u must hold all brown regions. kgd is brown, therefore it is part of the transcontinental bonus. good luck!

vat connects only to Italy, same as smr. vat and smr aren't connected, they reside inside Italy. You can attack back and forth between Italy to both vat and smr, but not between the two.

Those countries are extremely small, even by European standards. ;) :P MrBenn's aim with the map was to, as accurately as possible, represent the political state of European continent than has ever be depicted before on a CC map.

In doing so there are several territories representing these very small countries as territories. The geographic position of these territories(vat-Vatican City and smr-San Marino) exist within Italy as independent states. Each one is separated by several hundred miles and do not share a border. So MrBenn has put the territories on the map as they exist.

So playing on the map you can attack to vat to Italy & smr to Italy and visa versa, but smr and vat do not connect because Italy is in between them. There isn't anything you missed, vat and smr are just very small territories within the much larger Italy territory. Just think of them as islands that only connect to Italy... these island just aren't on the water. ;)

Yeah, I was also very confused when I first played this map. Cost me the game IIRC.

Not sure whether this is a map issue, a BOB issue, or a site issue, but figured I'd start here.

I went to reinforce from Gibraltar to France, but my drop-down menu lists France 3 times.

I chose the first option and it worked, so I'm not entirely sure where my troops would have gone had I chosen either of the other 2 Frances being offered. Maybe it's reading that there are 3 possible routes for me to reinforce France from Gibraltar so it gives me the option 3 times?

It's not a map issue, or a BOB issue: I don't use BOB and I've had the same happen on several maps now. The drop menu lists some countries twice when attacking or reinforcing.
