I would lobby for the maps being a bit bigger. I know it's a "small" map in terms of territory count, but with the rivers and boats and the narrow territories with long names there is a lot going on in the center of the map. For me the busyness detracts from the otherwise excellent graphics, so if you bumped the small map up a bit it would require less leaning in for me to figure out what is what. Kemwer territory is especially troublesome, as it too me a while to notice that it borders Kha and Djanet.

Graphix stuph: The Sphinx still seems a bit off... there's an unnecessary pixely border around parts of it, and since it is so much darker than the column-shaped legend below it I don't buy that it is sitting atop it. The bevel effect next to the rivers is a bit too thick to reflect the banks of a river, but again that's just my opinion. And the color on the outside of each column could be darkened to match the rest of the map. And the font being used for the regions looks both Greek rather than Egyptian and cartoonish.

Gameplay stuph: The Memphis and Alexandria colors are a bit too close for me, though I can easily figure out what is what by the mini-map. Same with Tanis and Sile. Maybe instead of the current line about the Dows, it should say something like "River Nile can only be crossed by the Dows" - putting the emphasis on the uncrossable nature of the river rather than on the boats. And I'm uncomfortable with the three territory +3 regions, while all of the four terit regions are only +2. I recognize that the smaller regions have one more border to defend, but I'm not sure that's worth the extra army.

i'm not happy with your solution....
Seems to me that whatever i do you or someone else who is into egyptian history won't be happy with it anyway so....i'll change it completely so there are no continents to worry about.

i prefer the names as they are because those are the names most of the world knows and recognises. very few of us are historians specialising in ancient egypt.

I will go with V12 (other is fine, personal opinion)

Alexandria: all well

Xios: everything well

Mendes: lovely 2 border territorie, and not on the edge, nice!

Tanis: 3 terr, 3 def/att, 6 cont (all) => Bonus of 4 Really, 4 is good for this!

Sile: good

Memphis: nice

Heliopolis: smart choise to put the name tag of Heq-at so low, good thinking

why you even want me? I can only support you :D

That could probably happen for this three that i am doing now, but i won't be changing the Valley of the Kings to fit in with these. That map already has it's own death-defining.
As for gameplay, the gameplay in V13 in the poll is more consistent with the gameplay in Valley Of the Kings, even though there is continents of a sort in VOTK.
Thanks for that comment, i appreciate where you'r coming from and i am in the majority of thought about this being the case....i too would probably liek to see some consistency across these maps.
I have just updated the Upper Egypt map, and that will follow whatever the poll outcome from this map is.

yes that would be another possibility...but for now we are voting on the type of map as per the options....your option would be considered if V13 gets the nod.

for what it's worth I voted non-classic. I know, I know, I'm usually the classic gameplay proponent, but the tiny regions were troublesome so I liked that you were trying out another option.

Maybe a hybrid? Fewer, slightly larger regions, with additional bonuses for holding cities? This being a small map you could get away with, say, five regions if you had interim bonuses for holding a city while you conquered the rest of the region. ??

Thanks oaktown.....so you want an extra small bonus for holding a capital. i understand about the five regions.
capital bonus +1 ? Is that sufficient.
with only 23 terts, in a 1v1 game, that's got to be an immense bonus factor.
how about +1 for every two capitals held.
that way there is not too much of a advantage given at play start if someone lands a capital.

The other thing i was thinking about for this quadtych, is that seeing VOTK has a large bonus structure, it would be good to start with:
Lower Egypt - straight continet bonuses
Upper egypt - continent plus capital bonuses
new kingdom egypt - bonuses based on gold mines
VOTk - already inplace.

What do you think?

I know that the version that's been voted for, but is there any need for the stars? Will there be a bonus for it or is it there to look pretty?

Version 14

Changes:
1. Changed the continents down to 5 instead of 6.
2. Reduced the number of territories down to the original 20 nomes of Ancient Egypt and given them their proper names.
3. re-named the continents after 5 major cities from Ancient times - Alexander doesn't figure here, not that it didn't exist, but IMU or Apis (i'm sure we've all heard of Apis) was the capital of Ament.
4. Basically i've re-done the map, so there is some colour changing going on and some still to finish to get back to version 12 colours which was what was voted for.
5. Cities are now represented by icons instead of stars
6. New mini map with new bonuses, +1 on each capital held.

Still to do:
A. Estuaries into the sea.
B. Fix up the colours.
