Why?

Raising the Aussie Flag - patriotism!!! :)
This is the former Sydney 2000 map, that i made several months ago, but was abandoned.

I would like to resurrect it, in a simpler form "classic style" because it was simply too complicated for the minds of most CC players to get around the attacking methods in the Olympic version.

Number of Territories
Parramatta - 6 (now 5)
Ryde - 5
Warringah - 5
Auburn - 5
Inner West - 4
City - 3
Waverly - 4 (now 3)
Bankstown - 4
Canterbury - 5 (was always 6)
Marrickville - 3
Randwick - 7 (now 5)
Rockdale - 4
Hurstville - 4
Total 59 (now 56)

The continents are structured around several of the local government areas in Sydney.
13 continents in total

Unique features
This map obviously uses the harbor as a barrier, but also uses the freeways as a barrier except where there are pedestrian crossings.

This concept of using a pedestrian crossing should not be too complicated for CC players to comprehend.

Uniqueness
Obviously the location.

Let's hope I can get this one into play.
Com'mon Aussie Com'mon!!!

Size:
Small 580w x 548h
Large 750w x 709h

Is anything happening with the Olympic Park? If not, then i think it would be better as just a map of Sydney.

no nothing is happening with Olympic park, but i left it there for no other reason than just a reference as to where it is in the overall scheme of things.
It is not officially a suburb, but it is a region that is very central to sydney, and contains the major sporting venues and Royal Easter Show grounds.
I'd like to leave it there, the maps still plays classically with it in. Call it artistic license. :)

Thanks Kaplowitz. :)
The suburb Olympic Park is located in is Homebush Bay.

Yea I think it'd work.

Though those continent bonuses need major changes obviously.

For those that don't know already, you can actually change your vote in polls now apparently. A nice new feature.

I could be wrong, but i think that if you edit a pre-phpBB3 poll so that you can edit, and you have already voted, then you can get a second vote. Dont take my word for it though!

I like it, it just seems a bit cluttered

You can also set polls where you can check multiple options - like in the game finder.

The number of territories is fine, i would suggest making the map bigger, the bigger it is, the more room you have for your names, and the less cluttered

I'm all for this. I've been thinking about doing a Perth map for a while, but that's a fair way down the track :P

My thoughts on graphics are it's a little cluttered. I'd like to see the opera house done as an army circle, like the statue of liberty in the new york map. Colours could perhaps use a bit of updating. Inner west and randwick are pretty close, and hard to distinguish from the water...

I like the use of roads as impassables, but the "pedestrian crossings" look a bit awkward... perhaps foot bridges would be a better idea? I'd like to see it spread out a bit more too... move the bonuses and the "statistics" somewhere else and give yourself a bit of extra room?

Still, lookin good as a starting point, but definitely stuff to be done.

Yes, i can probably loose some legend areas in the upcoming updates to make it a bit smaller. or reduce the number of terts....i think 48 would be the next size down for an 8 player game.
currently at 59.

48 = 2x24, 3x16, 4x12, 5x9+3n, 6x8, 7x6+6n, 8x6

at 48 it might be good for a medium size speed game. :)

2x16, not 24. There is a third neutral player.

56 is okay too,

2,3x 18+1n; 4x14; 5x11+1n; 6x9+2n; 7x8; 8x7

I'm all for it, cairns... though it would be cool to see a little more Sydney flavor, if it doesn't clutter the map too much :)

Uh Huh...got you.

I like the use of roads as impassables, but the "pedestrian crossings" look a bit awkward... perhaps foot bridges would be a better idea?

I am going to stick with the pedestrian crossing, as this hasn't been done before on a CC map in play whereas bridges have, and i had foot bridges on the previous attempts and they didn't go down well. me and bridges are not exactly graphically compatable.

I'd like to see it spread out a bit more too... move the bonuses and the "statistics" somewhere else and give yourself a bit of extra room?
yes, all that will move about of course...i'll see what i can do!!

56 eh? OK..i can live with that...reducing it by three from where it is now....

is 56 terts good for speed games though....they must surely take some time to play....wouldn't that be 28 terts each?

Sydney flavoured.. hmm.... When you look at the map it needs to be unsmiling and you need to get the impression "This map is too important for you to play on"... (no offence to any Sydneysiders... hey, at least you're not Victorian :P)

Also, 56/3=18,2/3 not 18 flat.

cairnswk, in 2 player games, the territories are still given out in 1/3. The last 1/3 starts neutral.

No, only 18, and two neutrals. in a 1v1 game, there is a third neutral player so that you dont start off with too many territories.
