I've knocked up some XML: http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/1/9/2 ... and-02.xml

The only thing I have some reservations about is the naming of the abbreviated territories within the XML...

    Staffordshire (Staffs)
    Worcestershire (Worcs)
    Derbyshire (Derby)
    Nottinghamshire (Notts)
    Northamptonshire (Northants)
    Bedfordshire (Beds)
    Huntingdonshire (Hunts)
    Cambridgeshire (Cambs)
    Hertfordshire (Herts)
    Oxfordshire (Oxford)
    Buckinghamshire (Bucks)
    Gloucestershire (Gloucs)
Currently I've labelled them as shown in that list, but I'm not convinced by it... Some other options I'm considering are:

1. Gloucestershire - Gloucs
2. Gloucs / Gloucestershire
3. Gloucs - Gloucestershire
4. Gloucs (Gloucestershire)

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Well the abbreviations should definitely go first, that's is more comfortable (especially to non-English players).
Parentheses are good for me...

Some people have criticized gimil's British Isles 2 because there isn't an easy pairing. (e.g. : oxon - oxfordshire), so I think that the best option is the fourth, abbreviation and parentheses.
First a player will read the territory name like it is written on the map, then he will be able to understand what is the real name (if the player wants ;) )

By the way,

              Final Forge

---The England Map has reached the ‘Final Forge’ Stage. The map has passed rigorous gameplay and graphics examinations, and major concerns have been addressed. If you have any other concerns, please make your voice heard. If after a reasonable amount of time there has not been any objection or protest, the map will be deemed finished with the 'Foundry Brand' of approval and will be submitted for live play. As long as there is still discussion or posts that have yet to be commented on, the map will remain in Final Forge until said discussion has reached the conclusion that the map has reached its final and polished version.

Post questions and concerns if any.

Sorry to throw this in amongst other discussion topics:

Have you dropped the 'no territory bonus idea?

Looking forward to playing this one, it's been a long time and a lot of work for you MrBenn - I'm sure it will be worth it =D>

Cheers DJ ;-)

I can't remember what happened with the "no territory bonus" idea in the end - I think I decided to leave it out while debating whether or not the gameplay would work.... I'm no longer sure whether it would be TOO confusing or not

Here's my immediate "to do" list for the XML:

1. Rename the abbreviated territories
2. Add in the starting neutral in Durham
3. Remember what was eventually decided about starting positions

Hopefully I'll find some time to make those amendments tonight :-s

1. Check
2. Check
3. Check

I'll double-check the XML when I'm not on the verge of falling asleep.

Wonderful map MrBenn =D>

Only 3 small things:

Coordinates to fix:

Small Version:
  • Notts.

Big Version:
  • W Sussex

888
  • Berkshire on the small version, it's possible to move a bit the name to the right ? (Partially covered with 888)

Everything else is ok. :)

          Beta - Quenching

---The Final Forge period has concluded for the England Map. All objections have had their time. The Foundry and I hereby brand this map with the Foundry Beta Brand. Let it be known that this map is now ready for BETA Play. After an extended period of time in BETA and once all quirks and issues have been resolved, the map will be put into Full Play (barring any Lack vetoes).

Conquer Club, enjoy!

I'd play if I didn't have this little thing called the HSC coming up.
And if there were games already up... It can't take that long can it?

I'm playing it now. I like the map itself. But the bonuses are not clearly stated. I have no idea what region is what.

I know it's not the most straightforward instruction, but I think there's enough on the map to make it clear. If a significant number of people raise it as an issue, I'll have a look and see if anything can be done ;-)

In the meantime, I wonder if this will help:

Each county is named in Black text.
Each region is indicated by a cluster of counties in the same shade, with the name ghosted onto the region.
The legend is divided into areas, and depicts the bonuses for each region under an area heading (North, Midlands, South).

So... the county of East Sussex is in the SOUTH EAST region, and in The SOUTH area.

On my way to xmap on it and I have no issues. It's a great map, no problems figuring out the bonuses. Great job! =D>
