So, I imagine that the various attack/bombard lines will be on the actual map eventually? You might want to try and make a bit more room, otherwise things could get a bit cluttered.
On the upside, it's quite a bit easier to discern between flagships, ships of the line, and frigates now.

i think this might end up being something like Pearl Harbor with those attack lines...
cairnswk wrote:i'm thinking that the map is going to look much better without attack lines....
but to notate....perhaps something like:
"any ship may attack/board any neighbouring/surrounding vessel"
that would at least alleviate the lines
Incandenza wrote:It sure as shit looks better without attack lines, but I don't see how you're going to be able to do the map properly without them. You have pretty critical-looking attack routes with the lines that would be impossible with the "attacks neighboring ships" textual explanation. Plus "neighboring" can be interpreted quite broadly.

And it would be as confusing as hell...
Hell, it's confusing with the lines too!

i agree with inc on this almost all the way. the attack lines should be gone, and although the attack-routes are currently complicated, you could simplify the attack capabilities of the ships and just limit it to a radius of 1 or 2 ships (or something). the last thing i'd say is that we could denote conquering with a double cannon and bombarding with a single cannon? but that again complicates the attack-ability of some ships as well as attack lines....

I think you misunderstood what I said... while the map would certainly look better without attack lines, it'll be almost impossible to make the map coherent without them.
The Neon Peon wrote:Looks a lot nicer now, and the concept is really good for a map.
A few questions, though...
How can you bombard and board from each other?
Why is there need for two lines to connect some ships?
Why is the Blue commander's name different from the other two commanders?
Where are the names of some of the ships? (the one between revenge, polyphem, and defiance; southern part of the map)
Nice job on the bombarding and attack routes, but who does the ship above bombard? I think a few of the bombardments need to be cleared up.
Where are the Frigates on the map? You still have them in the legend
Overall, excellent graphics, and excellent map.

You can't - although it is possible to state this in the XML - it will be impossible to determine which attack is which in the drop down.

What are you talking about man....there are plenty of blue ships on the map that belong to the French.
the French and the Spanish just happen to be on the same side.
History lesson perhaps whites....

there are a combined 31 french and spanish ships, there are 27 british ships, 16 ships are french, 15 spanish. but i think the first time i counted, i must have missed some cuz i only counted like 12 french ships
and yes, apparently i do need a history lesson lol... didn't know the french and spanish teamed up on that one. french history gets overlooked in the states cairns
