Random and border deployment

Postby ButternutJosh on Wed Feb 06, 2019 12:35 am

Just made another suggestion I got from an old Flash game and whilst typing it remembered another feature from the same game - Random and border deployments.

In Random, you don't know where your troops will be deployed each turn. They're distributed between your regions completely randomly. Usually makes for slower games with less bottlenecking and deep assaults into enemy lines. Your borders could be given 8/10 of your troops or none at all.

In Border deployments, your troops are automatically distributed evenly between any of your regions that border an opposing or neutral region. This makes for some super interesting tactics, as you effectively know where your opponents will deploy their troops and can use it to your advantage by trying to give them as many borders as possible to thin their deployment. In this mode, deep assaults are much more effective, as they give your opponent a ridiculous number of border territories deep behind their own lines which will automatically draw troops away from where they need them. It introduces a whole new aspect of border tactics, where you use your turn to try and manipulate your opponent's deployment. For example, you have a good incentive to attack their bottleneck, as spread their next deployment amongst the territories behind it, rendering them fairly useless, particularly on chained or adjacent reinforcements.

Thanks!
