With the huge success of Mibi's LAYER BATTLE thread in the GD [clicky], I have started a new group specifically made for all artists and people that like to watch or participate in art-related competitions.

The Layer Battle Arena is one of CC's newest usergroups, and we are looking for more people to join!

This group is a group based solely in art. Art competitions, discussions, battles, and more.
If you think you have the skills to compete, please join us! We'd love to see what you can create!
If you don't want to compete, you can still join anyway! You are welcome to join just to look at all the awesome pictures and vote on your favorites.

It is a non-competitive group, so anyone can join, even if you are a member of another clan!

What the hell, I'm looking to improve my shooping skills, maybe you guys can give some advice.

Well, what type of art is involved in layering? I have an idea based on the "layering" part but can it be explained a bit more? Does the art have to be all computer created or can I do it by hand? And the rules would be the same as in the other thread? Also is it like a turn based game where you HAVE to take your turn in order?

i'd love to be in the usergroup just to watch...

Layers are just one of the tools offered by graphics programs such as Photoshop (I'm pretty sure GIMP and others have layers also). You can think of them as clear plastic sheets. Paint on one of them doesn't mess up anything on the other layers, and you can see through to stuff on other layers. Its not a big deal, you don't even have to use them if you have a better way. Its called a "layer battle" because you would usually be taking one "layer" from your opponents image and using it in your own.

Unless you are an exceptionally amazing artist doing things by hand, computer would be the only way to match the quality of some of the images submitted, I think. (if you made the image in your signature by hand, and could get something of similar quality done quickly, you could probably stand a chance)
And the rules would be the same as in the other thread? There are lots of different competitions. Each with their own set of rules.

I'm still just learning how to make very basic shapes in Photoshop, but someday plan on being better.

They aren't from there. All made by members of CC in various contests around this site.

The first 3 are straight from the Arena group.
The last 3 are from Mibi's battle in GD.

The creator of each image up there is (in order):

Appologies to WidowMakers.... I accidentally listed Mibi as the creator of his image on the first page. WidowMakers made the zombie image, not Mibi...
