SUGGESTION: Clan games [Pending]

PostPosted: Wed Apr 04, 2007 3:38 pm

Suggestion Idea:

In order to organize clan games, the CGO (clan game organizer) needs ability to create a game, which he/she won't join automatically.

Specifics:

This type of games must be password protected and have a title. And should go to a new tab in "Join a Game" called "Join Clan Games".

Ability to create such game will be protected by a specific privilege (CGO privilege).

For every complete group of 20 people in the clan, 1 CGO privilege will be granted to the clan. The clan is free to assign this CGO privilege to any of its member. If clan members count drops below a complete group of 20 people, this privilege will be revoked.

This suggestion can be implemented only after a new clan system will be in place first.

Why it is needed: Currently only a tournament game gives you ability to create such games. But they are not really tournament games, and they should have different privileges. People who spend a lot of time organizing private clan games, should not be tasked to run a public tournament every 3 months.

Priority** (1-5): 4

So only the clans with 20 or more members get this privelege?
And who do you think should be responsible for handing out these priveleges?

And just out of curiousity, what clan are you in?

Yes

Hopefully the new clan system will allow clan admins to assign that permissions. That is why I have posted this suggestion now, so lackattack can incorporate it along with the new clan system.

I don't think Lack is creating the clan system. I believe he will just be implementing it as-is once it's released. Maybe he can clarify that...

But it's certainly possible to create Clan Games, but probably not for the clan admins to hand out.

I know he will be using existing PHP solution. But if he decides, he will be able to extend it, if required. Same as the heart of this web-site is open-source forum engine, which lack has extended to include much more.

It just would be better to automate the process of privileges creation. There will be a lot manual, tedious work to keep up with.

Accordingly to CC definition it is a clan, I don't want to go into explaining differences for the sake of this suggestion.

of course its a clan....its a group of people who play together all the time...there's nothing wrong with it at all...

it eliminates drama...it keeps them fun...and lets players play players of like skill and rank

AK, you always seem to be against such things...but you dont seem to play many open games yourself... they all seem to be private...or with your clan... and I dont mean this personally at all. Im just curious why you seem to go against them...I just dont understand....I go all over the scoreboard...when I can play elite I play elite, when I can play colonels, I play colonels...who cares...im even joining the Xi games so I can play some games with all ranks of players, that I dont have to worry about cheating, abuse, or neg feedbacks for taking 11 hours to take my turn, or being pink in a game... I just dont understand why everyone cant understand the need for groups like super elite, etc....

Why is it so hard for people to understand the attraction of these...and further...who cares why certain people want to play together...what their ranks are, or what kind of games they play... Idont care that Andrew B doesnt open games so I can play him...why would he....he has a much higher score, and Id beat him every time....

I do understand that the new forum update will solve all of these problems...im just posting to ask why there seems to be resistance to such things, when clearly there is a huge demand for them...thats all

We want to let you in, Fitz! (So I can be first in the line to beat your butt, again) But you cannot win a single qualification game ;)

there is no need to announce such a thing...it is common knowledge....

an hour ago, I let a 6 player game slip through my fingers that was impossible for me to lose...impossible...boy did I yell...

Im getting better though...read my signature

Hmmm... maybe you misunderstood me AAFitz, but I am not against this idea.
I am against tourney games being used in this manner, but that is a different suggestion in a different thread, so lets leave it there.

I was just asking questions that Andrew didn't clarify in his original post is all, and commenting on why Lack might not be able to change the new phpBB Rivals to accomodate this idea.

As for me not playing open games.... I slowed down quite a bit on playing games and try to only keep 6 or 7 active at a time. Now I would much rather keep those games filled with friends and clan mates, to maximize the enjoyment I'm getting out of this site. And I'm not trying to offend anyone. But if you PM me asking me to join a game, I usually will when I get a free spot.

i didnt mean to question what you play...that would be a quite hypocritical in this case... my main point is people should be able to play who and what type of game they want...

it just seemed you were against the idea of the elite games, colonel games, super elite games in general...if I misunderstood, sorry....and again...i was only trying to ask why you didnt like them....nothing more....even if you didnt like them, you are entitled to that....i was just curious why....

also i fully understand youre running out of space in the tourney section...
it does get crowded in there....

I think its just that we are impatient for the new update so these groups can be formed with opportunites to name the games......but I understand its out of lacks control...

Nope, not at all.
I don't really care if they exist or not, because like you said, I don't play in them anyway. People should be able to make the games they want and label them accordingly, but without abusing the privelege.
The only thing I'm against concerning Elite Games and things of that nature is the creation of them using Tournament Priveleges.

I think it's a good idea Andrew, maybe not the whole thing, but the basic idea is something I would like to see implemented someday at the site.

Thanks AK! :)

Please, could you expand on how would you like this to be implemented better?

Checkout http://demo.gotbase.org

That is what we hope will serve as a solution for clan games.
