Concise description:Look at the size of this forum post. The user only entered one line of text, but it takes up enough room for like 50 lines of text. This is a massive waste of space that makes it hard to read the forums.

Are you using internet explorer? For some reason medals screw up there...on chrome (which is what I use) the medals would show on a total of 4 lines instead of 8.

I also see only 4 lines of medals.
Perhaps you need to adjust your screen size in the computer settings.

I use firefox at home and IE at work. On both, with the default zoom level, the screen looks the way he shows it.
With Firefox I found that if I zoom out one click it's enough to put the medals 5-to-a-line, and the text remains readable. With IE however, if I zoom out to 75% the medals go five-to-a-line but the text on the page becomes too small to read, so when I have to use IE I just put up with the nuisance and leave it at normal. Firefox doesn't tell you what the zoom percentage is, but I think it obviously has intermediate levels in between 100 and 75, hence allowing the perfect balance where the medals go 5-to-a-line but text remains readable.

Every single post on here, expect my first one, is artificially longer because it's showing medals. Not a single one of you wrote enough to have your post be longer than your medal list. This is like buying 1 item from the grocery store and receiving a receipt that is about 2 feet long. It's just silly. The post should be the longest part, not the crap on the right showing all about the poster. It's the post that's important, not the poster.

Yes, but have you
tried zooming out like some of us have suggested? Like I said in my post, I used to see 4 medals per row like you do, but I zoomed out my browser one click and now I see 5, and the text is still readable. Just try it, see if it works.

The medals give the poster more credibility. It's not really that big of a deal to scroll.....

You have 10 medals I have 35, that would mean your post means over three times less than anything I post. Congratulations, you just deemed yourself lower than a lot of people on the site.
In reference to Bed's suggestion - I agree with him. There is no need for all the wasted space being used to show off a gif of medals. Eliminate all the gif's on the side and the forums are easier to read.
It's not really that big of a deal to look at someones profile to see their "glory".

Yes I did zoom out, and yes they show up 5 per line not completely screwy like my screenshot. But it doesn't change the fact that every single post is still made longer due to the medals. Leave the line that says "Medals: 35" if you want to see your glory.
If look respond to a post, look at the Topic Review below the options. That's what the forums should look like.
EDIT: This is the first post where the content of the post is longer than the posters credentials. Probably because I only have 2 lines of medals instead of 4.

I could support and OPTION for members to opt out of medals. However if its "everyones stuck with no medals" then i can't support it.

There's an option in BOB that lets you get rid of medals be a user's name.

Small Avatars: ON
Hide Signatures: ON
Awesome. I love how BOB is like 100 times better than CC. Everything CC won't do, Bob does. Without BOB, CC would fall from a 5 star rating to a 2 star rating.

In the "Edit Display Options" menu in the User Control Panel, we already have "Display Signatures" and "Display Avatars." Could Lack add "Display Medals" as an option to select or deselect as desired?

I posted this from work and it was true. Now that I'm at home it isn't true. I'm not sure what happened, but I was able to collapse the medals portion of people's posts before and now I can't.

Go to the 'Site Options' in the BOB Menu
- turn 'Small Avatars' On... And guess what?
Got rid of the medals for me (and 1 or two other things like when someone joined, their location and number of posts)
- you can also hide signatures
Cheers for making the suggestion - a decent one imo and I wouldn't have worked out how to do that if you hadn't suggested it.

says the guy with a sig that takes twice the space of the medals.
about the suggestion; no! i love seeing my medals and people's medals. it tells you what type of player the poster is (little experience or not, a freestyle player or not, a team player or not ect)

Yeah, I think I had BOB enabled and noticed and it and then had it disabled later and that's what blew my mind. Sorry for being retarded.
