subforums in the map foundry

i guess with those subforums that we have here it is not going to work,
there are things in the map idea forum that aren't ideas anymore, and the thread makers are complaining, there are all kind of things in the normal forum and the only good thing is final forge subforum so i suggest we should make new subforums:

*New maps and ideas [for ideas, bad graphics/ bad looking or not compleet maps]
*(mainforum) [for maps that are in the middle stage (between new and final forge)
*final forge [ok we have this one already no need to change]
*other [for ideas for the map foundry for by ex. mibi's map activity calculating and all other things that fill the mainforum up]

i think this will be a lot better

[edit]also i think the "moved:" threads must be deleted (the old ones) after a week

i think the less sub forums the better. if you keeep dividing the forums you will be dividing the views and less views is less comments and feed back. personally i think the foundry subforums were a mistake.

subforums should only be created when the main forum is too full and meaningful topics drop off the page after a few hours or minutes. this is the case with all forums not just CC. if forums are divided to quickly it really fractures the viewership and interest. iv'e seen this happen many times.

well i think the subforums are to sort things out, so it doesn't seem messy and you can search what you want in no-time

but i agree with that too much subforums is no good, but i thought this:

"New maps and ideas" because of 75% of them is abandoned and so it creates to much space

"(mainforum)" just because it has to have the most threads that are worth looking at (final forge has better, but it are much less threads)
right now it hasn't

"final forge" for the finishd maps and the nearly finishd maps because they are worth looking at

"other" just because it waist to much of the spaces in the pages of the other threads

and i didn't even mentiond that we could go much farther
like, abandoned/vacation etc. but then it would be to much

I see your point mibi. I know that I don't like reading map ideas because most of them are terrible. I prefer the maps that are brought into the main foundry forum that are pretty well formed, rather than those that have been done on paint in a few minutes. But for that very reason I agree with Wisse that the sub-forums in the foundry do need to be sorted out

Hmmm... I never visit the Foundry so I'm probably not the right person to respond to this, but I'll let you know what I think in an un-official reply.

I personally think 3 sub-forums for the Foundry is plenty. Like mibi said, if you keep adding more subforums it's going to equal less views and less posts which is what map threads thrive on.

Sub-forums were discussed quite a bit before they were implemented, and I think they probably just need more time for people to get used to them before we start trying to change the system again.
Anyway, just my $.02

totally agree iwth ak's point. i'm a usual vusutor of the foundry, but lately i visite only parts of it because of the new subforum's.

in the old system i would have lookes for the maps near final forge and while i was lurking around i would have left some feedback on the new maps, now i rarely look at the new map ideas, because of the motive that there are posted only ideas and rarely a rough draft. so there is nothing to say just good idea/bad idea.

just stick to the current forums, subforums i thing they are the best formula to use for now.

well right now it is all a mess, it would be better withouth any sub forums than as it is now...

either remove the newly added subforums or make more. the ideas subforum is crap. it's filled with 1 post threads of ideas posted a million times before. and lost in those threads are maps that are actually in development. either keep anything in development in the main forum or reverse to the old format. we had a nice thread for new ideas. we did not need a messy subforum.

i really like this format if it is done properly.

*New maps and ideas [for ideas, bad graphics/ bad looking or not compleet maps]
*(mainforum) [for maps that are in the middle stage (between new and final forge)
*final forge [ok we have this one already no need to change]

It seems like a mess because there are no clear instructions on how to use it.

The way Andy and Keyogi want to use them is a good idea and will work, but they need to get off their collective arse and post the "announcement" that has been promised for a while.

Jeez, just give us a little time, all you. Why are you all so eager? ;)

Don't worry, it is coming soon. By X-mas. :)

I think that there should be an abandoned section. People might want to see previous attempts at what they are doing, or just to look at what has been tried and has failed.
