* Suggestion Idea:
A new forum containing the stories related to our maps, further information on this location etc.
* Specifics:
Each map would have its own thread
examples:
pearl harbor could have one with some details about what happened and possibly some images as well
Ireland could have some details about the country in general and regions used on this map
DiM's trilogy could be outlined here chapter by chapter
etc. etc.
* Why it is needed:
Great thought and work goes into creating maps, people enjoy playing them but many know little or nothing about the story that goes with them. This would make this site more interesting and possibly open doors for us as we suddenly have "an educational side"
on another thread earlier I was explaining circus maximus actually existed and is a historic place and is not abstract/fictional - that is what put this idea into my head.
Reading DiM's thread on the first map in his trilogy it obviously needs an accompanying story page,

2007-06-25 23:14:58 - Game has been initialized
2007-06-25 23:14:58 - Please click here for the story of this map
This could be arranged via the medium of GreaseMonkey!!
C.

Something to consider for a little further down the road. I know a while ago lack and I talked about getting small descriptions of the maps (say you click on the thumbnail of the map to see the larger image, and below the image could be some text describing the map).

i appreciate your answer above andy but this is something that could be acted upon relatively easily so it would be great if we could advance it sooner rather than later

As a mom, and a just plain curious person, I love this idea. Granted, CQ isn't and shouldn't be an "educational" site (well, actually, I think strategy is a great learning too, but anyway ... ). However, when the maps are accurate and/or accurately based on literature (Tolkien, for example) it would be neat to point this out and maybe spark some interest in further research.

Maybe in addition, have two links: one to a Wikipedia article for the map/area (if applicaple), and one to the Foundry thread that created the map.

a thread like this could be a great aid to mapmakers as well in that it could carry more detailed explanations of legend items and with new xml features rolling out all the time in new maps it could be a great way of keeping the legends clean with just the min. essential points.

Something like this could be user made and posted as a single topic in alphabetical order.
Sounds like something a usergroup I heard of might do. An Animated Description of Mister Maps was it? Can't remember.
If such a group existed and made such a topic and posted it in Foundry Discussion it might get stickied and a moderator might help manage it. But it'd have to be fairly well along and well designed of course.
I know that's not as much as the suggestion wanted, but it is a step forward into the right direction.

sounds like a great idea in terms of moving this one forward.
