Separate Fog of War on 'Join a Game' page

Not sure about this, but it occurred to me that a newbie stumbling onto a fog of war game as his/her first game is going to be mightily confused... So I thought maybe there should be some way to protect new players from getting themselves into a game type that could drive them away from the site.

I haven't made up my mind on this myself as I wouldn't like to see the join a game page too cluttered, but would be interested in hearing other's opinions on the matter.

As I see it there are 3 options:

1) Have a separate tab for fog of war games, similar to the ones we currently have for speed games, private games or tournament games

2) Prevent new recruits from joining (but not starting) fog of war games, similar to the way they can't join team games

3) Leave it as it currently is

Please discuss :D

Hm.

A new tab doesn't really work and it's too inconvenient for the rest of the players on the site. The tabs really separate gametypes, not gameplay (if that makes sense).

Ensuring n00bs don't join is better, but I wouldn't condone it. The reason n00bs can't join Team games was more for protection to normal players from having a deadbeat/CC-ignorant teammate.

I say just leave it as is. Afterall, they run the same risk of joining Freestyle games, which I would guess most people aren't used to. Or No Cards games. Or Assassin games.

Hmm, yes I agree to a large extent. I suppose the reason I am suggesting this is that it is one thing to play freestyle, but something completely different to not even be able to see 50% of the territories on the board (or more), so I think it is worth some consideration at least.

great idea...i know if i was a new player id be hell confused...and if a newbie joins a heap of games and one is fog of war, if they dont get it they'll just deadbeat in all there games...which will be annoyin..
so i reckon dnt allow noobs to join them...like with team games

I would've said yes, and newbies shouldn't be allowed to play it, but I chose option 2 as thats more important IMO.

I concur that hiding them from new recruits is much better than a new tab.

I think we should keep our ears open for signs of confusion before we decide to do this.

Why not hide them from noobs as well as creating a new tab?

Hide them from noobs because of their lack of experience.

Also create a new tab because the differences in game play that fog of war option makes is much greater than, for example, the options of bonus cards or fortifications. So the fog of war option could be considered a game type.
