All first round reinforcements should be EQUAL

Hiya all,

Of more relevance to a sequential game, but still applicable to a freestyle game.

All players start with the same number of armies and the same number of territories. Shouldn't the reinforcements for the 1st round only also be equal for all players.

Imagine the scenario, it's your first turn in an eight player sequential game and your last to have a go. You look at the game log and each of the previous players have ganged up on you and every one has taken a territory off you. Your reinforcements are going to be at least 2 less than everyone else and possibly even 3 less.

I think the fact that you need different tactics when you play last compared to when you play first - and for all the positions in between - is one of the things that makes the game a challenge.

Play enough games and you'll get your fair share of the advantages and disadvantages of each position.

i agree with cicero, its happened to me before, i think i know what you're saying but it was a bit confusing for me...are you trying to say that even if (on the first round) nearly all of your territories have beentaken off you, you will still get the same amount of starting armies, the same as everyone else...even if they start with lets say 8 and you atart with 1 or 2...is that the suggestion? or different?

Essentially he's saying that if the first person in a round received 7 guys on his turn, the rest of the players will also receive 7 men regardless of the amount of territories they have by their turn.

I would agree with this, it would be quite fair.

Plutoman has put it a lot simpler than I did.

In a Freestyle game you have the choice of when to play.

In a sequential game you have no choice in the matter.

However every player should have an EQUAL start.
We are all given the same number of territories to start with.
We are all given the same number of armies on those territories.

For the first round only, we should all be given the same number of reinforcement armies.

The number of the first round reinforcements would be calculated based on the number of territories you started the game with, not the number of territories you started your turn with. It's just an attempt to make the game fairer.

I agree with Cicero that there are different tactics to use whether you start first or last, but in the vast majority of cases by far, starting later in the round is a disadvantage. Not a huge disadvantage, but a disadvantage nonetheless. Making first round reinforcements the same would diminish this disadvantage.

i think this is a great game because if you go last in a large seq game you allready hav a hige disadvantage

I dont know, that would fundamentally change the dynamic of the game - essentially making it a different game.

Part of the challenge of this is to play the hand you were dealt and it's also part of the reason we randomized who goes first (so it spreads the love so to speak)

If we did it, it would cause a fair ruckus amongst the players so you're going to have to make a watertight case for it. It would be an uphill battle on a very steep hill if you pursue it, just so you know :)

An interesting idea...

Of course - in "the popular world domination game by hasbro" it's the same as here - i.e. you suck it up... of course - if it were the case in the board game - everyone would drop armies near the guy with the continent - and thus would probably be broken...
