[Rules] Kick for One Missed Turn

PostPosted: Wed Jan 25, 2006 7:35 pm

[MOD EDIT: This topic is merged together from all the suggestions that would have players kicked out of a game for missing a single turn at any point in the game. This has been REJECTED. An no, it won't happen just for new recruits either.

For other missed turn suggestions, see here.

If you see any suggestions that should be merged here, please post here or inform a moderator. Thank you. --agentcom]

I feel 24hrs. is too long per round. In two of my game one person jermey is holding up the game. two solutions i can see would be 1 shorten the rounds to 12hrs. or two kick players would dont take their 24 hr turn.

The good news is that players get kicked out after missing 4 turns. If you find it hard to wait 24hours, play a few games and you will have more turns per day.

Collecting armies for missed turns

I see what has developed as a common strategy now is for some players to miss their turns and then, (intentionally, or not), collect three turns worth of armies all at once and immediately win the game. This has just happened in two games I was in today, and a player in a third game was talking about how it had also happened to him in another game.

I can see the purpose behind allowing players who miss their turns to catch up later, but it appears that what is happening is that some players may be intentionally missing, (thereby slowing the game by days), and then coming back with a massive strike.

My suggestion is to eliminate this "catch up" feature, or to at least limit it more. It looks like this is mostly happening in the 2-6 or 7 rounds. If someone can't check back within 24 hours then maybe they should be penalized by missing their reinforcements. At least that would be some motivation for people to be more active.

It looks like what's happening now is actually reinforcing the motivation for skipping turns. This really turns the active players' strategies topsy turvy, when you don't know if a person is really coming back, or not, and then are surprised when he suddenly reappears with a massive force.

Again, two games I was in ended this way today, with the least active player in the game suddenly coming back and overwhelming everyone.
It appears that this has actually developed into a winning strategy.....

collecting armies after missed turns.......

:o Yes, i believe i agree with you about the advantages of missed turns Scarus. This does seem to be a tactic that people could easily take advantage of. I was very  surprised  with a game recently when i logged on to see that the gameboard was almost totally dominated in 1 round of play & just could'nt believe my eyes after the previous rounds of attacking dice i had been getting....lol....took me a few mins to figure out what had actually happened in that game. Not that im complaining about that here, but maybe there is a better way? It will be interesting to see what other experiences or ideas some of the other folks might have to add to this discussion. I'll be checking back to see....... :D YP_Legend

... If a player can't play his turn in an 24 hour period, maybe he shouldn't be playing.

... Eliminate the catch-up reinforcements. :!:

MONARCHY anyone?

If anyone remembers MONARCHY you may rmember these words?

<XXX> of your troops fled in fear.

Monarchy used to have a "vacation mode"

your account was shut down for 48 hours or more while you were gone for the weekend or vacation. you only had 48 hours of protection and you received no fortifiying troops while you were gone. This kept you in the game but you didn't benefit from being gone either.

If you start by temporarily shutting down their account, then only give them the one days reinforcements when they log back on ! I think number one it wouldnt be much fun but above all after 48 hours your fair game. How long can you last being attacked with no reinforcements?

To recap : "troops fleeing in fear" was the intended reinforcements for each turn you were losing. Only allow the current round reinforcements for returning players. This option could also illiminate the 24 hour wait for people still playing turns. obviously they couldnt attack the vacationer for 48 hours but the war goes on.

Lets face it , were not playing for the Golden Globe trophy here, were trying to have fun , pass some time, meet new people, show off our strategies. So what if someone loses 30 points on the boards for a loss, at least those of us who show up get to play a good game with other competitors.

WOW WHAT A MOUTHFUL

I know the programming could be intense, Its just an idea !

NEVER CLAIM PERFECTION, JUST IMPROVEMENT !

good post, would like to see this if it's feasible... think it would actually solve quite a few problems we've all had.

I really am tired of people who misses their turns all the time. Makes the overall gameplay suffer way to often!

My suggestion is: Kick player out after their first missed turn! Cruel but fair!

I´m not trying to be a pain in the ass or a "moral-bitch", just want to play and enjoy! But as for now, you could end up waiting serveral days for your turn to come in a sequential game. And as for me, that´s a way to long waiting! Maybe I´m too addicted to this game, or maybe I´m plain nuts...
either way...

I just had to express my thoughts!...
...just an opinion:)

Peace all:)

Personally one missed turn, is excusable from time to time things pop up suddenly but 2 missed turns is when there needs to be something done IMHO

It really depends if you believe people have weekends outside of CC. If the answer is no then go for it - if not then 3 turns works the way it is. People must be f^&*(*** impatient to suggest these type of game improvements. DC suggested something similar 2 days ago.

You could have a busy weekend and easily miss two turns. That shouldn't be punishable. Deal with it. 3 is pretty fair.

Well then I guess its lucky you have people missing turns in your games so you don't have to play more often and die

***Deadbeat-Solution***

Hóla!

One easy solution  to all the annoying deadebating could be to "separate" frequent players from more occational ones.

This could be done by having an option for "short or long games", where the "short"-option for example could have as a rule to kick people out after one missed turn, and the "long" 3 or 4 turns (maybe even have the "normal" as well, with 3 turns).

This is according to me of same importance as to choose map or number of players and so on, and would most certainly satisfy more players.

The obvious answer is of course to become a premium...!, but that wont work for all... Personally I don´t want to become premium because of my lack of discipline (and my girlfriend´s  cruel anger......C.C is taking way too much time as it is... at least that´s what she thinks...

I've merged a couple of the recent threads on deadbeats into this one thread. This is a problem that we are currently working on and it will make it easier to review the everyone's opinion in just one thread instead of having several to go through.

So if everyone will keep their deadbeating suggestions here I would appreciate it.

In the winter I work nearly every weekend at a ski resort 4 hours from my home. I am wondering how I will be able to play games and still make my weekends. I think I have missed on turn in all of my games and i do not want to start but I can see a what if here and would not like to see further penalty for missin 2 turns in a row!

this has a simple and "free will based" solution.
as I wrote earlier on:

This could be done by having an option for "short or long games", where the "short"-option for example could have as a rule to kick people out after one missed turn, and the "long" 3 or 4 turns (maybe even have the "normal" as well, with 3 turns).

so if this was the case, you and everybody else would be able to choose the type of game that suits you, and no one will find this a problem anymore - everybody happy! :D

The only problem I can see with this additional option is that the number of players might be reduced due to one more "specialized option" for creating a new game.

...ain´t an easy life we´re living....lets ski some more!:)

i like the option for making a game where if someone misses 1 turn, they are out. I have never missed a turn yet, I had one close call, but that was it and I am a very busy person.

I have a Premium Membership, but it still pisses me off when people miss turns, makes the game drag on for a very long time and I do not find it enjoyable waiting for someone to miss 3 turns in a row before they are kicked out. I think 3 total missed turns in a game is absolutely inexcusable.

If we had this option, i would only play games where you were not allowed to miss a single turn.
