[PC] Turn Skipping Explanatory Tag

Concise description:

  • New ratings tag: "Turn skipping"

Specifics:

  • There are quite a few explanatory tags to attach to the ratings you leave, but one I find myself missing is "Turn skipping" (or something similar). Right now "Cheap tactics" is the closest i can get, but it doesn't really explain anything.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:

In many games - especially speed no spoils/flat rate games - people often try to skip a turn or two to be able to strike a decisive blow against their opponents. This does seem to happen most often during the end game when there are 3 players left. This is a cheap tactic that take advantage of the deferred troops system and the fact that those two remaining (who doesn't know if the third player will come back) can't afford to go after the third if he does in fact deadbeat. I don't mind people missing a couple of turns in a long ass speed game, but it's nice to at least give a heads up when possible, and i really don't like when it's done under the impression of quitting the game.

  • The tactic might become less frequent, if a tag (and a corresponding attitude/fair play rating) can be given.
  • If so, fair play would increase, which is beneficial for the site.
  • People who utilize this tactic frequently would be tagged accordingly, and their opponents would - hopefully - be on guard

I like the idea. I would be good to know who uses this as a tactic so you can hit the immediately when they try it

The only problem I see is that it could be unintentional given to those who had not intentionally skipped turns (sometimes it's just unavoidable, I've had that happen to me despite it saying my 100% attendance)
But that is true for most other rating tags.

agreed that sometimes its unintentional... 1 or 2 missed for the game certainly can be but 3 or 4 by round 7 for example are unlikely to be... of course asking people to be reasonable when using this tag can possibly be challenging

I've been thinking about this a lot since I got here in July. And as a 1v1, no spoils, speed-freak I get where you are coming from. I was in a game the other night where an experienced player said "gg" during the end game with things tentatively in my favour and then he waited out a turn. And I just smiled. I knew what was coming. I waited the five mins and then I forted the defense point that was weak . He began his next turn as soon as I was done mine, dumped his pointless extra troops and then I ended the game.

In my first month I wasn't ready for this tactic and I lost a number of games that way so I was royally irked. But now I'm not so sure if it is a bad play (Elf Edit: even though I know people aren't supposes to do this.) at all or what an extra tag would really accomplish. I don't read my opponents ratings anyway and will play anyone no matter the rating since it is a very subjective system. I mean I don't think it would hurt but would it really change anything?

When i was thinking of CC as RISK around my table in the kitchen then yeah. It was frustrating. If that happened at my table Dude wouldn't get anymore of my beer and we would eat him for lunch. But this isn't RISK. And there is no way to really prove it wasn't "an internet malfunction" or "my mom made me do dishes sorry."

I say roll with it. But that's just me.

E.

Well I was gonna post a sugg and did a search and found this gem

I would like to see a "MISSED TURN" tag. Deadbeat just isn't the correct tag for a couple missed turns. Neither is quitter.
