Try to beat personal top score or go for medals? [Page 2]

Hey guys, I recently hit my top score, but I've dropped 200 points fast... so now I'm thinking of going for medals instead of playing my normal games (team games) and going for points. I know that being around Brigadier isn't that high for some, but it is for others... would you give up the opportunity to play with a high score with a chance to increase your top score in order to increase your base medals to 36?

I'm just not sure whether or not to keep playing only team games and keep going for my top score or to go for 11 more medals and drop thousands of points :D

Anyway, anyone else in/been in this dilemma? Also, any advice? I think I'm leaning towards going for medals right now... it's been awhile since I've focused on something other than team games. Maybe mixing it up with some speeds. assassins, terminators, manuals, and fogs will do me good. Thoughts?

Never had the struggle of choosing between brig or 36 medals myself :)
If you can't decide on the best objective, go for the games you want to play. And if you're not sure on which games to choose, then I'd think you're best to go for medals, so as to get variety of games. It'll probably get you a brand new refreshed feeling for cc, and you can always come back to team games later. I've had nearly a year of team games now, and it's got so I play little else. Time for a change in the New Year I think, to explore more of the many varieties that CC offers us.

I aim for score and personal skill. I can't bear to loose games because some other guy got better disposition or i rolled 2-12 in escalating game. But sometimes I play them for fun.

Team games are most stable for slow growth but I enjoy terminator and a bit of assassin (but on normal maps, not doodle :D).

Ive done it many, many times...well at least 3 from brig to sgt... there is no more fun in the world, unless you are too attached to some perceived status symbol of rank....and, do not enjoy the work of doing it all over again.

Rank is just a symbol of game choice for the most part. I say, choose what you want to play and play those, and when you do lose points, take that opportunity to try out all the other maps, features and odd settings that you wouldnt ordinarily try at 2800 points or so.

Be prepared though, you will very quickly lose 1000 to 1500 points. Ive done it in 3 days. Once that is over though, the fun begins. At first you may find it odd, because people do play against you differently at the golden flower, than they do at the hat. But there is nothing more funny than dropping 1000 points, and then having a captain make fun of your rank and assume you are just not a good player. Or make up some insane idea for a move in a team game, and not understand why you didnt make it...or join a game with low ranks, really just to see how others play.

Not all have taken the opportunity to really do these things, and while it takes some time to gain back the lost points...Im not sure that until you do play with the masses, you can really understand CC completely.

Unfortunately, through no fault of my own, my score has once again started to rise, and I am just too tired to play speed games, so its just something Ill have to live with.

I've been considering CC in the same way for months now. I realised that the only way I'd start enjoying CC again (and at the moment I'm really not) would be to literally deadbeat out of about 9 stacking games, clear the boards and start playing speed games again, with some team games as well. But the holy rank, the indignity of my map rank stats...the horror!!!

I'm about this close at the moment...

Well, I chased my medals for the longest time and got all of them except the gold quads, trips, and the new manual. I also entered lots of tournaments, which suck for your score because you're frequently thrown in with guys who don't know how to play. My advice: go for the medals, you've proven you can get to the score and you'll be back there again.

I've only been to brig one time, and it was without playing any team games (just seq esc 6-8 man); now that is one tough way to do it. I marvel at some of the guys on here who can play the large esc games and stay at 3k+. That is true skill.

This time around my score has been climbing mainly due to the preponderance of team games I am playing, I am finding more and more I enjoy the camraderie of playing with my clannies being the best part of the site.

I had topped out just shy of brig about a year ago, and then lost interest in score. Went for medals. Dropped as low as private at times playing ass doodle. It was a lot of fun though actually, and I learned a lot of game styles that I would otherwise not play.

Once you stop playing doodle you get back up to major pretty fast. Then you have to quit public terminators to get back up to colonel. It shouldn't take more than a couple of months once you stop joining those games to finish up the existing ones and get back up to colonel. Plus you may have some new skills that help : )

I think your decision should be based on if you are having fun or not. If you are not enjoying playing for rank anymore, then play for medals. You won't stress over points anymore and you should have more fun. Remember, its entertainment, if you're not having fun, try something different (i.e. the medals hunt).

p.s. Some people do treat you different in games if you are a striper, sometimes even those who know that you were a colonel before. It's subconscious I think. But not all, those who recognize skill and not rank won't, but they are few and far between.

Indeed, bananas to that.

I for the most part just play the kind of settings and maps I want to play---never am I too concerned with medals. If I'm close to getting a medal in something, I might consider going after it, but I don't really go out of my way. That said, I don't quite play for top scores either, but I think I get more enjoyment out of trying to achieve that higher score than the medals.

In the exact same boat. Dropped 400 point over a week based on not being able to win a single roll. I made the formal announcement in my clan that my rank would undoubtedly be dropping, as I would be going for medals (seeing as I never really play freestyle, I'm sure to lose a few ;)).

If you want to team up for any medals, lemme know

Put up a personal record in score for yourself (3000 points or 3500 is ok). Reach it, get a good clan and then start to fun around in pub games (but don't mess them with CLA or challenges). Get medals, drop to cook and then stop playing doodle assassin - esc 6+ games will get you to major in few moths.

That is real fun, yes. Also, don't fear to experience beta maps or new settings (I feared unlimited a lot and now I find it quite interesting in team games).

Hell yeah, I'm definitely gonna do it.

Thanks guys, some really good posts in here; very helpful.

I guess I'll get started on those speed, freestyle, manual, fog, assassin/termi games soon! :?

This is gonna be fun!

did both, after reaching over 4000 score a few times, I said, screw it, try something different and went medal hunting.

Being Conqueror isnt as awesome as everyone thinks it is so I would recommend playing for medals which is coming to and end for me too as soon as I get 45 more defeats for Manual gold. But once you hit high score you get too involved and detailed with the games you join/create in trying to maintain your high score. After you collect all your medals, the next step is to play tournies trying to collect those medals which is where I stand now. If I recall, Sjnap was going though the same issue as I was.

But seriously, what do you experienced players like doing?

And is there anything you haven't tried, or haven't mastered, but want to?

You have all the medals, so go for score. I don't have them all yet, so I'm playing for medals. Once I get terminator then I will play for score. Maybe I'll try go get manual and nuke first too, not sure.

I'd like to master all the maps or at least have good strategy of a large diversity of maps, this is a challenge but rewarding if it can be accomplished. So, I need to play a ton of games on one map, over and over and over again, til I feel comfortable, then move to another one.

So as new maps get rolled out there is a sort of indefinite challenge for you?

At this point, is it really plausible to call anything a "challenge" for Blitz?

I really don't play for either, I just play for my own enjoyment. I enjoy playing with other people, so I stick almost exclusively to team games so I dont forsee myself going for some of the medals. So I guess Im more in it for points, but obviously that exploit could be going better... ;)

sometimes there is gameplay issues on some maps that are in beta when released that need revamping for balance.
