Greenland-Iceland Connection Gone

Now i realize that CC is very different from the ole RISK game...

But i never knew the Hasbro folks had deleted a key board connection, from Greenland to Iceland.

That's right, i was shocked to see this too...
You can no longer attack from North America to Europe!
at least, not on the RISK Onyx Edition.

This means the 5 bonus for NA is defended from just 2 territories, Central America and Alaska...
And Europe from just 3... Western Europe, Southern Europe, and Ukraine (now called Russia)

My family bought me this game for Christmas, and it's an awesome board...
I'm gonna try to get a live game on tonight to try it out, but i'm just not sure i'll like playing without that connection...
I'll let the others decide which way to play it,,, as i've already thought thru the strategy...
but i'm still dumbfounded... especially since the rules don't mention it.

Here, this pic might show it better:

It might be hard to see... but trust me, the connection is GONE.

Was it a mistake?
Has anybody played this particular board game already?

That just seems unfair.

If you get a lucky drop in North America, it's game over.

The board I played on for most of my life does not have a connection between East Africa, and Middle East. We didn't care if it was an oversight, or an attempt at altering the strategy. We played the same as though the border was still there. I would definitely treat your new board the same way. I could understand playing without the connection if they had altered the values of North America, and Europe, but the way you've described it, would unbalance the gameplay.

Then again, in a proper game, it matters very little what the continent bonuses are worth.

Do you have the Onyx version? I'd kill for it. Oh and have you seen the 2 player only version that Hasbro put out.... what a load of crap it is.

Seeing how more experienced players don't bother with the bonuses on NA and europe, it appears obvious that hasbro thought that this would make those bonuses more important, and thus become a more meaningful part of the game.

As you know though robin, rarely do any of us even play for south america or australia. So the only real difference in this game play is going to be during the kill shots. One would have to watch out not to get caught in a corner, running the board will be harder.

My thoughts on the board.

Looks like someone didn't check the XML before releasing Onyx to Beta.

North America was always a viable option in 3 or 4 player games (especially if you use manual territory selection and don't use the cards). This now makes NA the most valuable continent on the board by a long shot!

its a cool lookin board alright but the playing pieces look like crap, i like the old plastic pieces from the early 80's, my wife got me an anniversarry risk set a few years ago, it came with wooden pieces, i dont know, i prefer the 80's stuff, just like the music, and remember if its too loud, your too old

Grab a sharpie and draw the connection so it looks right.

that is just wrong... i saw numerous Risk Boards, some even connecting Australia and S America, but never saw this... and Ukraine was always Ukraine... how is that Russia and you have also Siberia, Irkutsk, Kamchatka...?! no sense at all...

Instead of marking up a collectible board with a sharpie,
I'm thinking of using the little pagoda bridge from the kids aquarium to make the connection... :D

I'm still amazed at how HUGE this game is.. the largest RISK game ever made...
The box is 17" x 23" x 4" ...and Heavy too! Weighing in at 15 lbs !
And the board, set up, is 21" x 31" x 1 3/4" tall! How cool is THAT 8-)

lol, but the cards are tiny, even smaller that a THOTA appendage! Image

I'm gonna suppose that it's a mistake... even if Hasbro doesn't admit it...
They've made mistakes before you know...
Risk/Castle Risk combo (1990) was missing the Great Britain-Scandanavia connection, but was added in later maps of the same version. And the 40th Anniversary Edition left out the Middle East-East Africa connection, and was officially acknowledged as an error.

Finally got a real game going on this board...

And guess what else i noticed...
There was no connection from Great Britain to Western Europe...
What a bunch of non-RISK loving retards over there at Hasbro.
TWO missed connections on the most special board ever of a game that's been around since 1959.

so i did a google search...
Image
and i found that while retards can't drive, they can vote, and they CAN work for Hasbro!

Oh... and yes, i won the game. Although it was close.

To go off topic, this has to be one of the funniest things I've read all day.

I think that because of this, Hasbro should lose the rights to Risk! thats a lot of mistakes...

Interesting. What is this game Risk you speak of. Is it new?

Really though...

Thats stupid. Its like taking the 7 of hearts out of a deck of cards.

Just pencil the thing in, and dont be bound by a silly corporations committee's coloquialistic calamities.

subliminal message included.. CC...CC.
