Well that sure seems pretty silly to me. Can anyone explain the reasoning for this position.

I don't have anything wrong with it.

But "the man" is keeping us down! Vive la Revolution!

I don't know why they don't like it. If you had made a new thread called "are there any ladies in the house" or something, nobody would have complained, but because you used and old thread its a problem. You were actually cutting back on the number of threads made, so it seems better. I'm sure that they have a reason for it though, sad, I like to see old threads.

Micro Managing Bullshit.

If they have an issue with necro bumping then auto delete the threads when they have not seen any activity in 10 days, and the original post was older than 9 months.
To warn or penalize members for this is just fucking stupid.

The rule was probably originally against randomly digging up old threads but it got a bit out of hand and now anyone who brings back and old thread is a criminal. Like you said, this is a shame as most of the time it really isn't doing much harm. Seeing the names of people that have now left probably brings back some nice memories for those that have been around longer.

Edit: Fast posted by King Suppish. Yeah, "Micro Managing Bullshit" hits the nail right on the head. Nice way of putting it.

Do a search , I am sure there is a thread explaining the position and reasoning behind this rule. Remember to post in it. (I wonder if posting in the thread about necro posting reasoning, from manym many moons ago, would be considered necro-posting?)  8-)

So, just to clarify. Where does the line go? Is it OK to post in a month old thread? Is it OK to post in a 6 months old thread? Is it OK to post in a year old thread?

It's fine to bump an old topic---provided you are actually adding something new to the discussion. But posting agreement with a 3 year old post may not be a good choice, nor bumping something to add a smiley face. ;)

Gotcha. You can post offtopic crap on new threads, but not on old ones ;)

yah, and necrophiliacs really arent bad people either, they're just misunderstood, then again maybe necrophiliacs and people who necro bump may have something in common after all

the trouble lies within those that do it purely for the just of it, to spam... IF you have something new to add that has to do with that thread then fine. But don't do it just to necro bump ;)
