Not to long ago I noticed that there is a STRENGTH column on BOB. I was curious as to what this could be so I checked it out in the manual and found this:

Player strength is calculated using the following formula:
Total Armies + (Armies Due x Missed Turns) + (Probability of Holding Card Set x Card Set Value) - (2/3 x Territories Held)

This jumble of equation threw me for a loop and I honestly have no idea what strength is measuring here. Is it an indicator of likeliness to win, or PWNAGE factor. Whatever it measures, is it a fair indicator?

I guess what I'm really looking for here are some units to work with. Please post with your thoughts.

I suppose that its probably good if your betting on a game. Otherwise I don't see much value. To be honest I've been using bob for 2 years now and the "strength" number is the only stat I don't look at. Every other one is valuable.

The only time i use strength is when im losing and trying to get others to gang up on someone...apart from that i never use it

It depends on what kind of game you play. If your playing just 4 man double or 6 man triples then strength is kind pointless. However standard games and more importantly multiplayer doubles is where strength column will help the best. BigballinStalin and I play a lot of 8 player doubles on WWI Ottoman Empire and we use strength to help us mold a plan. Use it in the decision making process of either breaking a team's bonus or eliminating a player. Strength helps us because we could look at the strength of a team and also the individual. That way we know who will gives us problems in later rounds or whoe we should just own despite what the other 2 teams are doing. Hope I am not being to vague, but it takes a little use and understanding of a map before the two go in place.

P.S. Another thing to think about is way are they strong, do they have a large or multi-bonus, do they have a large amount of terries, or 5 cards. All things to think about before you take your turn

Good ideas guys, thanks. Maybe it is somewhat useful to get an average of how threatening someone is.
