Getting more out of CC [newbie]

Hi,

Joined CC just over a month ago and been playing public games. Not dived into any tournaments yet and this is the first time I've viewed the forums.

I'm going to browse around and find out what I can, but was wondering if anyone had any advice and tips on how to become more involved in the community here. Anything you wish someone had told you when you first started, etc.

Thanks :)

Don't expect consistency. In anything. Not the dice. Not the opponents. Not the posts. Not the moderation of the posts. Not anything. Consistency comes here to die. Accept that fact and you will be happier for it.

To me it seems there are four factions in CC forum goers.

One is the tournament gang, who do nothing but organize and play tournaments all day and night.

Then there's the clan people, who fight their clan wars, and mostly socialize within themselves. They only leave their clan forums and come to GD when something big happens and they need to complain...

Then there's the foundry people, who are responsible for new maps in CC. They're mostly a bunch of pale geeks, who never leave the house because they're busy making the 57th version of a map that has a 9% chance of ever seeing live play...

Lastly, there are the spammers, who mostly hang out in Monkey business, play forum games, and try to sound as witty as possible. Occasionally they troll over to the GD, but mostly only when they have something to complain about.

You need to look deep inside yourself to see what kind of person you are, so you can find your niche in the world of CC. There's no in-betweens in CC, if you're not one of us you're one of them!

My best advice. Find what you want out of this game. If you want to be competetive, then start talking to higher ranked players. Learn about game selection, certain strategies, and games to avoid. Join a clan. Many clans can show you how to be better and teach you team play and game selection. Don't settle on the first one you get in though because you will probably struggle getting into a good one at first but can definitely work your way up there.

If you aren't interested in being competetive then find out what kind of specefic games you enjoy playing and just play those and have a good time. Many people get many different things out of this game. You just have to decide what you enjoy doing.

If you've enjoyed playing against someone challenge them to a return match or set up a doubles together.

Join some tournaments, browser through the usergroup/clan lists that are accepting users, check out the Map Foundry, and keep up on CC Dispatch newsletter, as it can provide you with some notes about the community!

That's actually a very good description of the forum-goers.
