cc is very slow again

The website is very slow again. I like the site but you've gotta do something about the updates or whatever causes the problem. I will have no option but to deadbeat in games if the site persists in being dreadfully slow for long periods at a time.

Lack is currently going through some behind the scene upgrades and improvements to make things speedier.

BUMP!!!!!!

For good reason!!

Average page load time = 1 min 30 secs = 90 secs

that means sometimes it take 2MINUTES! to load a page. If you do the math it took me at LEAST "EIGHTMINUTES"[edit] "SIX" just to post this. I timed it(estimated the submit topic).

Login in : 90 secs
Go to Forum: 90 secs
Go to General Descussions: 90 secs
Go to second page to find topic: 90secs
Select Topic: 90 secs
Submit the reply: 90 secs --- edit--- 3secs

---- edit----
the topic only took several secs to post, hence the edit
I have over 20 games to play.

I read lots of good books. I don't need them interupted by cc. My point is that i'll be forced to deadbeat and if that happens i shall not be returning, i don't need the hassle. I know, i know, who needs me, i'll look forward to the comments.

Timed:

To Enter Game Number: 140321

I clicked the enter button at 12:34:40
Page loaded at 12:36:05

1 minute 25 seconds

Yeah, i'll go ahead and begin the turn.

Last night and this morning I have been restoring backups to the test site which really slows down the server. The reason? I'm recovering missing game logs. I've processed 2/6 of such backups, so there will be more slow periods over the weekend but I'm trying to do them outside of peak hours.

I'm sorry for the temporarily poor service. Should I post a warning on the My Games page?

FYI - once I finish this task, I'm going to fix the archive program, which hasn't run in a while (that's why your finished games haven't disappeared)

there should be extended time periods for turns, 24 hours = 48 hours = 60hours, because i can't possibly play ANY much less all my turns.

yes warnings would be very good .

because if you join a rt game without noticing that sever is slow today , the rt is hardly enjoyable then.

A warning on the mygames page would be useful whenever slow performance is expected.

I admit that this website is slow at times but never 90 seconds to load a page! How slow is your internet gerry?! At its slowest mine never takes more than twenty - usually between about 2 and 5 seconds.

I have broadband and it's super fast, but cc is never super fast.

cc is as you said 2 - 5 seconds when it's at its best but that's not super fast.
More often than not it takes about an average of 10 seconds to load a page and when i say more often than not i mean on an average of 20 visits 12 of those the site will be on a 10 second delay and 4 of those will be longer, sometimes to a degree like today a 90 second load time.

Thats an average 90 secs. I wondered why didn't just time out as it has all too often and figured they extended the timeout period on the server or something?

I really like this site and would hate to stop using it but i missed turns today because of the site being slow, it's not the first time and it's slow too often. Regardless of back-ups, updates etc it shouldn't be that slow and definitely not so much of the time, once in a while is acceptable.

This is last chance saloon and strike two, one more and i'm gone, i could do without the annoyance because that's what it is fast becoming. It says this on the front page of the website.

Designed for the casual gamer, playing Conquer Club is not a time consuming process. You can take your turn in 5 minutes with your morning cup of coffee or in between classes. A game typically lasts several days, but hardcore risk takers can play multiple games at once and stay up all night strategizing their next move.

is not a time consuming process
It should read "is sometimes Very time consuming.

You can take your turn in 5 minutes with your morning cup of coffee
I'd go to work in a bad mood if i played turns on cc before work and not because of my gameplay or tactics.

between classes
It's not likely.

multiple games
At your peril.

stay up all night strategizing their next move
More like stay up all night waiting for cc to load.

I joke, but it's true, you New Recruits who read this remember you've been warned.

I am actually in the process of ordering a major server upgrade with Rackspace.

no problem lack, I think it's important to have all the old game logs so I'm willing to go through some periods of slowness in order to get those back.

Thanks mr. math!

Still, I think gerry has a point in that the server could be faster even when I'm not crunching extra data.

According to google, people have a 700ms attention span (1000 milliseconds = 1 second). When a webpage takes longer than that to load, some visitors will go somewhere else. Obviously that's more crucial for news sites and search engines than an online game (you can't take your turn in game 207542 anywhere but on CC). Still, people will eventually get fed up with slow service.

I'm not sure when the new server will be ready - and there will be some downtime for migration - but the upgrade will be complete in a week or two.

I would be ok with slower loading for a while...my computer and internet combination sucks so much it probably won't even matter.

no worries

Lack thanks for the warning on the page. It is definitely helpful.

I'm a server guy and fell your pain when running processes like this. Thanks for all your work. :-)

I have just noticed:

A major reason/cause for the slowness of cc is due to Internet Explorer, yet another microsoft issue. I had stopped using Firefox and have just now re-installed it and Suprise Suprise the difference in speed between the two browsers is ridiculous.
