Attaching notes to friends

When I view my friends list, I have an option (or at least the appearance of an option) to attach a note to each friend.
If I click the checkbox and type a note the friend is deleted from the list.
How do I attach a note?

good point.
you can sadly only add notes when you add someone to your fried/foe list, so if you did not do so before, you have to remove him and then add him, with the note...
a bit counter intuitive, but it works

Perhaps this should be suggestion then? So users can make better use of the Note function? Someone follow the Suggestions form and suggest it!
