This is one map I can't figure out the best strategy. Is there one? We seem to be just chasing each other around in circles and waiting for someone to get a break on their cards.

If you're weaker than your main opponent try to keep your main forces on a country next to him or just behind. If you are stronger than your main opponent try to keep your forces just behind them, but never next to or in front of them.

there isn't much strategy, the best option for strategy is play it freestyle and take your turn at the right time....

I try to leave at least two armies on every space and hope the math catches up with them. Not that I have the best luck with Circus.

We just played with Escalating Cards, so the game was all about getting a set, eliminating a player, and taking the cards and not about the layout. I'd like to try it again with Flat Rate or even No Cards (would probably take a LONG time).

I play this map occasionally there is a strategy - first if you can link up your troops in a circle you basically have the ability to fortify in any direction. Generally keep at least 2 or 3 soldiers on each territory. You can also try to strangle your opponent who is trying to build up on a single territory, especially if it's towards one of the sides.
The idea is that you can risk the fight but if they provoke an attack, they risk diluting their concentration of armies which they are trying to build up. Surround them with three territories. First, your opponent might be intimidated and not attack you - and will stay in your grasp, letting you apply the strangehold further - starving him of cards.
If he tries to break out, he exposes his flanks towards you and you can pounce.

Who taught you guys how to speak English? Everyone knows it's counterclockwise.

Me too but that was months ago - for some reason nobody wants to start a game of it (and neither do I for that matter). My strategy was simply to attack as much as possible and keep all my armies on 1 territory - chase one player at a time.

Relative newbie here, playing Circus Maximus now for the second time and for the life of me I cannot figure out what an appropriate strategy might be on this map. As of now, every player in the current game is pretty much taking one territory and one card per turn and accumulating large forces in one or two spots, and none of the large forces are confronting one another. It seems this could go on for quite a while.
Is there an optimal strategy for this map that anyone cares to share? I'm getting dizzy.

It's a weird ass map all right.
However, playing escalating cards at least makes the game reasonably quick. Then it’s just a matter of spreading yourself out, cashing in around 10-25 armies one round, try to knock of an opponent with four, five cards. If you manage that, then you’re on a roll.

play defensively, and stay out of the way of oppenents large forces, stay alive on two or three different places on the circle. avoid the centre lane, and be friendly! my record on cicus maximus is 7-1.

That is, count cards!
Seriously, I'm not a fan of circus maximus though.

Played it once and although I won, I wouldn't recommend it. Personally, I played as aggressively as hell - I put all my armies in one place, picked on one player and eliminated him, got the cards and went on to win easily. That was 3 player freestyle though, I would think 6 player sequential could be a nightmare!

I once joined a CM game, sequential no cards, it was deleted after a few rounds by mutual consent of the players in it.
never again.

the only winning move is not to play
its real name is circvs svximvs
however....my team was able to take another out on round 3...and almost round 2....2 armies left to kill on round two....so ive come around but since i died first on every other attempt to play it...i hated it every other time

Well dropped all troops on 1 country once but then an opponent had lotsa countries and he got lotsa extra troops.... devide first then concentrate 2 maybe 3 places make sue as many as possible people cannot attack all you forces...
example if red can hit 1 of you concentrated cuntries make sure or try to do it so that he can t easily attack you other country (ies) thus not being able to make a direct kill on you leaving you alone on the other hand try to position yourself so that you can hit as many enemies as possible in 1 go and do a complete kill without having to kill to many other peoples units or worst case having to do a full round to kill that 1 last unit.
Escalating way easier to win or die if you keep getting a new set just wait untill cards are high enough ... just dont wait too long....
Fixed more difficult and slow but same thing as esc except expect others to hit and kill aswell
does this make sense? hhmmmm oh well lol
