some info from wiki : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discrimination

my story :

I understand that people often have a different opinion, interpretation, norms and values in cases where I am on the other site of those ; because we as people are different in terms of environment, education, etc ...( thats just a fact of life, i cant expect everyboy live by mine...)
So that's not the point I wish to make here, she felt compelled to exclude us from that tournament and that strikes me more as discrimination, especially since she did not even bother to discuss it with me first what feeling / interpretation she had about my avatar ...
For me as a person and a papa of a daughter i try to live in as much respect to the male and female sexes in my life and enviremont , so dont think i want to disrespect anyone here.

Is it permissible to exclude anyone because of an avatar? sounds actually pretty trivial because it is not belief or religious concerns but well .... I love my avatar because it brings me and other people joy just by looking at it and puzzling in what she is singing/saying
And dont shoot me but heck yeah ; she is cute and sexy...is that a crime :?:

Accused:

VioIet

The accused are suspected of:

Other: discrimination

Game number(s): none bcs we were not allowed to join that tournament

Comments: just want to hear how u all , the players and the cc workers,volunteers,.. stand in this mather ..... ;)

If Violet, as a lady, is offended by the avatar, then I suppose the nice thing to do would be to just move along and go play other tournaments.
Do I find it offensive? Definitely not, but I can appreciate that people of a certain upbringing (religious in particular) might. It's just a matter of common sense I feel, if she's offended, leave her alone and move along.

You most certainly are entitled to make a huge deal out of this, perhaps even get a ruling that forces Violet to let you play in her tourney, but what is the point? She seems to be a nice person, so just be a nice person yourself and move along. I'm sure you *understand* that your avatar might offend some.

1..i am not willing anymore to play that tournament
2...i dont started this ...she was the 1st to send a ticket
3...i do understand that other people can have other opinionsand values so maybee u can think of this short tip i have for u ...there are always 2 sides in a story

VioIet is craaazy

foe her and move on ............. to your own tournament where only people with avatars that let you see their boobies can join

that will teach her to exclude you

Tournament organisers have the right to decide the entrance criteria for their tournaments, as long as they adhere to the minimum number of publicly available spots.

Personally I find your avatar inappropriate as well. However if it is within CCs guidelines then personally I wouldn't use it as a criteria to exclude you from a tournament etc, beyond my first impression of you being disfavourable.

Surely you understand that it is likely to offend some people. Therefore you shouldn't be surprised if you get a negative response from time to time. In this case you have been excluded from a tournament. Move on.

If violet was excluding you because of something inherent to who you were (race, religion, sexuality) that would be inappropriate. This is nothing like that and I don't think it would be appropriate to sanction violet for responding to something which offends her. I think this is a frivolous and petty complaint

This is true...and yet...

jeraado wrote:I think this is a frivolous and petty complaint

What is frivolous and petty is that the tournament organizer would keep someone out of their tournament based on something so insignificant as an avatar. In fact, that is pretty much the definition of "petty".

Aside from that, those who are offended by the human body to this extent really need to get a basic understanding of reality. The truth of the matter is that the avatar does not show any sort of sexual organs and it is only those who find themselves offended by it who are giving those body parts "the power of nudity". The reality is that that avatar shows nothing more significant sexually than a belly button (which is to say...none).

As a Tournament Director I already let Violet and pascalleke know that it is NOT acceptable to deny somebody entry to a tournament because the TO doesn't like somebody's avatar, username, signature, etc.

I also posted that in the tournament thread.

Case closed.

The way I see it, the solution is simple: If you want to join a tourney that someone is hosting, you should respect their wishes. You said it was trivial. How hard is it to just change your avatar throughout the duration of the tourney, then change it back later? I find your avatar offensive towards women as well, so I think she has a valid point. Just change the avatar. Problem solved.

this has already been ruled on by a TD so I am going to move this to GD it looks like you were trying to start a discussion about this. I know some one will post that I moved it to the wrong forum but that is where I thin it belongs.

are you kidding? you truly think that an avatar is a reason for a TO to exclude someone from a tournament? if the avatar is not deemed to be offensive by Team CC, then what is the issue? the TO is not a mod and should not force her own beliefs/standards onto others in order for them to join a tournament... your statement/question is just as ridiculous as what VioIet did... maybe you two can meet at her house and print out all the forum posts you don't like and burn them... toss a few books on there that you don't like too just for good measure... *rolling my eyes at this absurd situation*... the black jesus is truly disgusted...-the black jesus

i was excluded from a tournament a while back because the TO had me on foe, i'm sure he told me but i can't remember why i was

my response was to tell him what a great tournament i thought it was and wish him all the best with it

i'd hoped my graciousness and compliment would get him to change his mind. it didn't

:(

anyhow i thought his reason was valid (the bit about me being foed)

mmm looks like i started something here....how can a TD exclude some one on personal mathers?? My believe a TD must be seperate such mathers ...as he acts on the job as TD not a player at that time :?:

Hang on, that would mean that a TO would be forced to include people they had foed, or justify their foe list. A TO is voluntarily setting up a tournament, for the benefit of the CC community. Why should the TO then have fewer rights than other CC members (i.e. to ignore those they have deemed in some way offensive)

Nope, I don't think that an avatar is a reason for a TO to exclude someone from a tournament, and I wouldn't do that. I do think, though, that the TO is the one that put time and effort into making the tournament enjoyable for the players, and, if they want to exclude someone for having the wrong hair color, that's their privilege. There's a difference between personally thinking that I shouldn't do something, and thinking that there should be rules against it. And, yeah, your situation is pretty absurd, I'm not sure how you connected it to this.

Anyway, my question still stands. Like greenoaks pointed out, some TOs don't let foed players into their tournaments. If Violet had just foed pascalleke, then would she have to let him into the tourney? Or are the other TOs who don't accept foed players also breaking the rules?

u say something without saying a thing ...can u be more specific please?

What i see here is so typical human ...we all have our own believes , values , standards, realities, etc ...wich we all use and need to survive as human beings ....we can discuss for ages on this i presume ....so thats not the point...
Also its just being human to judge and make assumptions on other people looks , names , believes, etc ....
so my guess is the CC - leaders have to make some rules wich are more clear in mathers like these...
I suppose that wo takes up a job must seperate personal believes from those wo come with the job.. :?

I think violet excluded you to protect the other players...I have had the misfortune to play you pasch and lost myself in your avatar when i checked out your profile,,,
Seriously, some TO may be offended by your avatar but if it's cc-allowed it's not their call...if you fit any imposed criteria, then it's not their choice...tournaments are public within guidelines and NOT at the whims/beliefs/'prudishness of the Organizers...anywho, it's been ruled already by a tourney Mod, so if Violet doesn't like the "class of player" on cc. she should just play with herself...

We all live in a culture where women's bodies are commodified - Billboards and advertising splash semi-naked women to sell things from deoderant to men's shoes. The fact is, Pascalleke, your avatar depicts a woman with the fly of her jeans undone and exposing half of her breasts. CC guidelines are hypocritical and the NSFW thread is a living, breathing example. (FOR GOD'S SAKE, NO NIPPLES!! NO NIPPLES!! --but everything else is fine).

There are a number of cultural factors in play - The feminiest movements of the 60's & 70's have been turned around in an ironic reversal. Somewhere along the line, women have been taught (or tricked into believing) that sexual promiscuity and skimpy dresses somehow equals emancipation.

I have always thought that Pascalleke's avatar was of poor choice (Greenoaks, General Stoneham and others fall into the same category) - They have a distinct aura of disrespect and objectification that only serves to undermine attempts of gender parity and equality. To try to call 'discrimination' because you were left out of a tournament because of your avatar is ridiculous - I appluad Violet on her stance.
