There was a time

There was a time Long ago!!

At this site CC which I truely love that the Posting got way out of hand. I was 50 at the time. The derogatory and bashing of both good and bad points got way out of hand. I told mothers of Kids I was teaching to play here to not allow them anywhere on the forum.

And I quit reading the forums- It saddened me and change was needed.

Now I tell the mothers to keep the kids out of flame wars. The mods have had a hard time of it. Will they make mistakes? most likely. Are they a benefit? Definately!!

I can now read the forums with out to much fear of reading vulgar posts.

Why were Ak_iceman And Wicked picked for the job. Because they were both well respected and well liked players.

We as humans though do not like authority I truely believe if I was given the job as mod (as respected as I am) that I would be thought to be a powerhungrey MOD.

It is a hard and thankless job BUT WE CAN HELP

WE can mod ourselves BY testing our message each time we go to post.

Is this message Benificial and upbuilding then post it if it is not then don't post it.

I have been in contact with mods by PM they do answer and although sometimes I do not like the answer it is still an answer.

If I do not like the answer I can pm lackattack But he does back his mods most of the time, otherwise he would not have picked them for the positions. I know this so I save my energy.

And I do know from conversations with lack that he is aware at all times of what his mods are doing.

I know that alot of you feel since you are premium that it is your site as I do, but it is our site to play!!! NOT TO RUN !!!

I also know that there are very few of you that have bought as many premium memberships as I have( i give them away in tournaments at full cost) And I know that I play under the rules and guidelines of the mods and Lackattack. and I abide by them.

That said you need to make a decision play here at lackattacks site or do not.

wacicha i think you are right about modding ourselves and i don't post things unless it is actually going to add something to the thread, whether that is a bit of humour or a reply to the topic it doesn't matter, so long it is on the subject and it doesn't appear random or pointless.

its a shame there aren't more people like you.

as for the mods i know they do their best and put a lot of work in but sometimes their decisions can be very frustrating and as a result i think people need to make their opinions known and plain.

mods are of course just expressing their opinion in their actions (which is usually right) but every now and then requires debate but this debate should be civilised, not the vulgar comments that, as you say, were (and in my opinion still are) far too common in all parts of the forums

Earlier today, a Spammalotter tried to quote chessplaya as a "long-time well respected member of the community." No offense to Chessy, who's only been here 4 months, but Wacicha is hands down THE best example of a long-standing respected community member, and I doubt anyone who knows him would disagree with me. It's good to see you W.

nice post wacicha. i would say it is a great post but the massage is simple. common sense and education. i think most people should check their language and make sure common decency is applied.

i'm a mod (actually i was, now i'm retired but still hold the title) in a forum in my country. the forum is about hun and jokes. and basically things really get wild sometimes.

while some people have a certain degree of education and maturity and they realize they must use the same language as in real life, there are also users that think they can say anything just because they hide under a cool nick in the comfort of their home. internet can sometimes give you a false impression of power and some people use this power to release their frustrations and simply hurt others.

in ~2 years of being a mod i have given bans only for advertising or chain letters. you know the type that join a forum and post in 10-20 random threads an ad for some porn site or a chain letter that promises riches beyong your wildest dreams.

i've dealt with bullied kids that used the internet to become bullies themselves, or adults that were frustrated, sad or angry and used the forum to release some steam. i actually like to discuss people problems and try to help in any way that i can. it's just a matter of finding the right approach for each individual and connect with him/her. all of them either understod my point and left the forum or continued but changed their attitude.

on this forum i get lost of memories when i see some users and sometimes i get the urge to pm them and start a really long and hopefully successfull talk with them. the main problem here is the fact that there are almost no rules. spam is encouraged, trash talk bigotry and racism are considered cool, and the mods don't seem to do much about it.

i agree this is a much larger forum but still more things could be done in order to raise the level of decency around here. i'm not really disturbed about the flames forum for example because i simply ignore it but kids surely find it a real attraction and that's not normal. and if only the trash talking was kept inside flames, but i've seen it in many other places without any consequences for the repective users.

i don't know if i'm being very coherent, it's a long post, it's 5.57 am and my eyes are barely resisting the urge to take a break and go to sleep. te point is this forum (imho) needs a revamp (map making takes it'stoll :P ) it needs a clear rule system and mods that act accordingly.

the mods around seem nice but they don't really act like mods. especially in the spamming department. i don't know the whole story but why delete a spam topic when you've got mods that spam. why are people punished by somebody that has the same sins?

take care.

I've been a mod at some small pokemon RPG sites, and such, and I haven't had much problems.

Anyway, I think there should be a spam forum so we can spam, and that everyone else isn't mad. Also to be fair it could not count for the post count.

As usual Wacicha is spot-on when he makes a statement. I concur. And I hope that his words will contribute to calming this issue down.

Sorry for bringing an old thread to life

But after reading so many complains, so many angers, so many flamings, etc in this forum since 2 (or more) weeks ago, I remember this thread. Take a breath and read what the wise man said.

I like this part :

I know that alot of you feel since you are premium that it is your site as I do, but it is our site to play!!! NOT TO RUN !!!

And that's such TOTAL BULLSHIT I can smell it from over here.

This site is ran 90% by community-created content. The site has volunteer mods, chosen from among the community, who do not get paid by the site admin. The maps we play on the site are made by community members. The tournaments are organized by the community, as are the clans, and even the majority of official site events.

And yet we, the members of the community, most of us who even PAY to be a member of this community, should have no say to any decisions regarding how the site is run? BULLSHIT.

Yeah, it's lackattack's site and he can do what he wants with it, he can turn it into a money-making machine full of ads if that's what he chooses. But we paying, contributing members of the player community have the right - actually, the OBLIGATION - to express our opinions about how the site is run. After all, we too have committed time and effort to the site, so our voice should be heard. And don't just say "if you don't like it, find another site" etc. which is just a ridiculous cop-out.

I can agree with natty to an extent. Paying customers should and must be heard, because they pay for their experience in time/money and because it's the only way to run a successful business. You can't expect to please the masses by not pleasing the masses...

Much of society's woes are caused by people feeling they deserve something and the conflict that sense of entitlement causes. However, CC is much more than just one man's business. It is a community, and users don't just pay and play. As natty pointed out, CC customers contribute to the growth and development of the site.
