Fortifying to your ally converts your armies? [Answered]

Obviously a noob, question: I'm playing my first doubles game and I fortified into my ally's territory. I was curious how it was going to indicate which armies are mine - and lo and behold, it did no such thing!

I read a post where someone suggested that if your ally is deadbeatting, you should move some of your armies into their territory so they become yours when the player is kicked. Now this makes no sense to me.

So just to clarify, the armies I moved into my ally's territory are now his, yes?

First, don't apologize for asking a question. People who complain about questions will do so regardless of whether you apologize or not. So don't, it's just a sign of weakness.

In a partner game you can deploy on your countries and your partner's countries. When you deploy on your partner's countries the armies you deploy become your partner's armies, you have no further control over them.

Likewise you can fortify from your countries to your partner's countries. You can fortify through your countries but only to (not through) your partner's countries. You must also follow the fortification rules that are in effect for the particular game (i.e., adjacent, chained, unlimited). Once you fortify to your partner's country the armies you have fortified there belong to your partner, you have no further control over them.

So, if your partner is deadbeating it's usually not a good idea to deploy or fortify your armies to him unless doing so lets you hold a continent bonus or supports some other strategic objective. If and when your partner deadbeats (after his third consecutive missed turn) you will indeed inherit his armies and his cards.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the thorough reply, tahitiwahini. I must have misinterpreted the advice to deploy on a deadbeat ally - or the poster of such was confused.
