Account "babysitting" : what is allowed?

Before I make any accusations I need to know exactly whats allowed and what isnt.

My understanding on this is that is it is only permitted if the player is going to be away for more than 24 hours.

It is not to be used to gain advantage for a team in freestyle games (eg player 1 is asleep so player 2 takes his turn) and as far as I know it shouldnt be used by people on the same team.

Am I wrong here?

I believe this is true, although I am not 100% certain about this as it is not actually in the "Rules".

Although I don't think this is actually in the "Rules", I completely agree with you and I know there have been cases where repeated offenders of this are warned or reprimanded. I do however agree with you, like I said, and hope that both of these are added to the "Rules" page.

I think this might give you some kind of an answer: HERE

I've actually suggested that the babysitting rule should be "updated" but I guess it wasn't that important

I was wrong

Thanks for posting that amazzony, that really clears it up :D

Maybe they should update that in the "Rules" page. *pokes wicked to move to Suggestions*

The colored parts are correct. Teammates CAN babysit for each other as long as they're actually babysitting and not just trying to gain an advantage. The only person you cannot babysit for is an opponent in one of your games, for obvious reasons.

account sitters are also not permitted to set up new games with their account and the account they are sitting.

I don't recall anything ever said "officially" for speed games. I've taken over for a couple people who couldn't finish a speed game, so they wouldn't deadbeat. I think speed games are definitely a different beast than the casual games.

So you guys tell me... Is babysitting being abused in speed games? If so, how? Do we need an "official" ruling? Let me know and I'll bring it up.

When a certain player has announced not to be able to login within 24h are you allowed to sit his or her turn whenever you want within the 24h or do you have to wait till the last minutes?

I dont see why babysitting your teammates game would be an advantage.

I don't have any issue there.

What I have come across is teammates taking each others turn to gain advantage (falsely babysitting when the babysat account holder will log in within a few hours of there teammate taking there turn)

as for speed games, i don't think anyone would have a problem with someone else finishing a game rather than it coming to a deadbeat end

Whenever you want *after they're gone.*

I never played a team game, but you're so obviously right. If partners have telephone, MSN, or some other real time connection - they deliver a best possible play. If you play partner's move alone, it's even a certain drawback - because you can't hear his/her opinion.
I'm talking about sequential game.
If they play freestyle, then one player can't play with two or more armies at the same time (or at least, not fast enough).

So, in any case, so called "normal" play is best...

I see this rule is going to need alot of work. in a casual seq game babysitting is of course done if there is a chance to miss your turn. In Freestyle the rule should be different you DO NOT know when the other players will show up. 2 Different Styles 2 different rulings.

only my opinion, but Please continue this discussion with real Scenarios ..... I need examples so I can Argue eerrrr I mean discuss this to an answer I am happy with.

There is not a different rule for freestyle. You still have 24 hours to take your turn in freestyle, so if you can't make it to a computer within that 24 hour period, then you're allowed the privilege of a babysitter. Babysitters should NOT be used to gain an advantace in freestyle.

No need to research. If you can only log on and not take a turn, then I suggest you don't log on.
