Well I only ever had, (except very rare occasions), 20 games going at once. The occasions I had more than that it was just a few more because I had games that I knew were about to end and joined a new one early. I practically never play speed games, and I've never found a regular partner to play team games with. Not to mention that I usually played 7 and 8 player games, which means even with 20 games active I wasn't taking that many turns. Yet I still have to pay as much as people who play speed games all the time, with their full load of regular games going too. Why should I pay as much as those who get more value than myself? Well I shouldn't; so I won't for now. Maybe I'll get bored with my four free games and re-up, but maybe not. Maybe there will be a Economy membership added? Say for $10-$15 I can play my 20 max games and no speed games. Maybe not, but I wouldn't hesitate to pay that. I'm just not sure $25 is fair for the value I receive, when other get so much more for their money.
Maybe I'm not wanted around here anyway. Dunno...

I could be wrong but isn't it like any membership? I have a membership at our local gym and I pay just over 30$ per month to attend. I can go anytime I'd like. I have access to the full resources of the establishment.

I have a tendency to go 4 times a week (sometimes only 3) for about 2 hours each time. I pay the same 30$ that my friend Victoria pays. She goes 6 times a week for upwards of 3 hours a day. On the same hand, Jared goes only twice a weak for 1.5-2 hours at a time and he pays the same 30$.

I haven't ever had premium membership, I've never played a speed game or anything of the sort so I could be missing something but isn't the 25$ what you pay to "have access to the resources" of a premium membership? I don't say I should pay less than Victoria because I don't go as often as she does, Jared doesn't say he should pay less than me because he goes less than I do. The service of the gym is offered to anyone paying the 30$ and we all make do with what our schedule allows.

Is premium the same way? Everyone pays the same ammount of money and in exchange for that ammount of money, you all get the same resources provided. Whether or not you "go 6 days a week or 2 days a week" doesn't change the fact that for "X" ammount of dollars you have the "package" available to you.

Someone tell me if I'm wrong but I don't think you get "less value" than someone else. You might not "use as much value" as someone else does, but to say you don't get it seems kind of funny to me. At the gym all 3 of us get access 7 days a week 15 hours a day for our 30$. We may not use it... but we don't get any less value. It's still available to us.

So if I have interpreted it right, you pay 25$ to be able to play unlimited games and speed games anytime. Just like anyone else does.

(Pick a name... any name uhhh...) A.sub pays 25$ and plays 50 games at a time and 2 or 3 speed games in a row if he wants.

I would say everyone pays the same ammount to have access to the unlimited games and the speed games. No matter how often you make use of it, it is still available to you. Someone else may indeed seek more for their money. Victoria surely gets more out of her 30$ a week than I do but that's because I choose not to do any more. It is the same with Jared. He has access to as much of the gym as he wants but he only "wants" a small ammount. It's not that the gym is offering him less for his money, it's that he's taking less advantage.

To take less advantage of something is not to mean that you are not being given the same value You simply decide if you want unlimited games and speed or not. And if you do... I suppose you pay 25$ and then play to your heart's content

(Unless you're me... or Selucid lol... then you harrass and abuse Woodruff to tell you when you can join a tournament to try to win premium. I'm not one to preach, I haven't paid for premium membership and probably won't but if I did, I'd be paying the 25$ for the "accessability" of the resources of premium membership. That's the package you buy when you pay 25$. You buy the ability to play as much as you want.)

If you play speed games, find yourself a partner for doubles games, and have fun, then you aren't wasting your money. I doubt Lack would reduce the price of premium for speciality players who only want to play certain types of game. When you bought premium membership, what aspects of the site were you looking to play? Have you fulfilled your goals? If so, then maybe it is indeed a waste of money for you to get premium again.

Don't sit there complaining -- get value for money.

Although, I get into any of my local government-run gyms for free cause i used to work for them, and my college gym is free so I'm in absolute heaven!

Yes I see your point, but that's why I DON'T join gyms or pay the high price for all you can eat buffet, when I know that I won't eat an amount of food that would make it worth it. Being a light eater it really annoys me. A smart gym operator would offer reduced priced limited memberships for those who don't workout 6 days a week, and never use the (whatever premium feature here). Then they'd get more income while losing nothing.

You know, I think it would be funny if there were someone around here who went around purposefully buying premium for everyone who says it isn't worth it to them to re-up their membership. I'm just sayin' is all.

Rabid loves the gym. Most gyms do give you a pass that you can buy 10 visits, 20 visits, etc... and you might space those 20 visits over 2 months. Then it's calculating whether or not "buying 20 visits" is better for you than buying unlimited membership and going 20 times.

I can see his point but what it comes down to is:

You can play for free, play 4 games as long as you'd like. You can pay 25$ and play as many games as often as you'd like. If you only want to play 20 games, then you are getting the same value as everyone else. You want to play 20 games but you don't want to pay the same money everyone else pays to play the ammount of games they want to play?

The $25 bucks also supports the functioning of this site, which you play on. So that has to count for something.

Well, all I can say is if its not worth the premium to you, then obviously you shouldnt buy it. I am grateful that you dont once blame CC for anything here, and only point out that it just doesnt fit your situation, as opposed to the many that blame the dice, or other factors. Its refreshing to see...though now its just a walk though of your decision making process to some extent and I suppose a subtle suggestion of the economy package...which to be honest would be a good idea in my opinion, if it wasnt a hassle.

Players like me that play tons of games, and use the forum...a lot... use up that $25 pretty quickly I would imagine. Its the infrequent users that fund the place I suspect. Its why I help out where I can, and when I could, bought a few other premiums for other people...I simply feel guilty only paying $25 for what I get out of, and demand out of CC.

I know times are tough and all but are you really that upset about $10 over a year? (Being that you find $15 acceptable and $25 too much)

So $10 for a year? I know that 3 cents a day or 84 cents a month could probably go a long way to other forms of entertainment....

Im not trying to poke fun... The gym membership is not a good example as most gyms (near me) are crowded and use the membership as a way to keep member numbers in check with the amount of equipment/classes/space they have available...

As far as CC goes... paying $25/year or 2 bucks a month for a form of entertainment i can play at work/home/ on my cell phone/ etc. seems more than worth it.

Administrative costs alone would probably prevent a site like this from offering 2 forms of memberships. (they would have to change the software to match the new ruleset and they would be doing all this for people to pay less???)

Makes no sense... To each his own i suppose... I personally cant think of many forms of entertainment that can be as fun as CC that i could get for 2 bucks a month...

I'm fairly hooked and I think about premium membership from time to time, however I can't justify $25 for a year to myself. It's not about that $25 is much to me. The thing is that I don't need something for the whole year. About 8 months in a year I will not play much CC as there will be simply no time for that. So that's 66% of my payment will go "wasted". That's the main obstacle for me.

Ok, you may say that the essence of premium membership is to support CC creators and help them develop and run this fantastic game. I fully agree with that as I had purchased such premium accounts in other games/services (and in most cases not for using additional benefits that come with premium accounts, but just for supporting developers). Now my "personal" problem with not wanting to overpay by 66% for just supporting CC developers is that CC is still relatively low among my interests/hobbies and, you know, I can't spend money everywhere just for "being generous". So at this moment I want to enjoy every dollar I spend in CC.

Why not suggest $5/mo premium (or 10$/quarter, etc.) accounts? From financial perspective, it's twice more lucrative for developers than $25/year. $5 is so little that by spending that you're thinking "ok, I will just drink 1 less beer" and it won't be followed by a thought "yeah, but the majority of payment will be wasted". To pay something for a year is just a too big "commitment" for new members. Generally, you need to be quite a big CC fan to convince himself/herself that it's worth to buy an account for the whole year. Why not offer something for more hesitant members? I'm quite sure that there will be quite many people who will want to try that premium account for a short period and some of them will later buy yearly premium accounts.

Perhaps if you don't want to "overpay"---play those 8 months as if they were a year. Think you'd play 500 games in a year? Play 500 games in those 8 months. You'll get your money's worth then.

Premium Membership is wonderful, because it's up to you how much value you want to get out of it. If you are fine with 100 games in a year, that's splendid! If you'd like to instead play 1000, all the better too.

i recently had a similar problem at a water park, i was gonna be there for the wknd, 3 days, its 25 dollars a day, or 75$ for a season pass. but i didnt want to spend money on a season pass because i would only be using it for 3 days, so i whined about it...

Well, it might be that I have negative or broken thinking which prevents me from buying premium account and I could use some psychological tricks to heal myself. With your help I may buy premium soon

But think about others. Don't you think that there are more of such people who are mildly addicted to CC and 4 games maximum is just a bit too low, but they are not going to play hundreds of games simultanously?
I think it's not a good idea to say them indirectly: "pay $20+ for a year now or get lost!".

You know, not everyone will come to forums and look at your reasoning and then decide to take yearly membership. I guess that there are quite many people who would try short membership and then see if they're fully hooked and they need more. So why not take money from them?

If the Jared's of Rabid bunnies' example switched to the reduced price membership that a "smart" gym operator would offer he'd actually be making less money. Would that loss be offset by the income from newly joining reduced price members ? I'm not sure, but business is never as clear cut as we non-business people like to think

Most of you chums don't seem to realize that memberships are about access to a faculty, not an obligation to make the most of them.

You pay for your internet, television with movie channels, car insurance, etc, and you'd be hard pressed to make full use of all of them in a given month. Why is CC different?

If people spent all of their time creating sliding scales for services, modern society would be mired in a sea of needless bureaucracy...or at least more so than it already is.

Yeah, many internet games offer short and long memberships. I can use the same your question: Why is CC different?

I don't know if $25/year membership is "hard-coded" into CC application, but if it's not then it is relatively easy to setup another payment plan.
I don't really think that by offering $5/monthly (or something like that) will severe CC income. On the contrary, it should increase the income quite much. After all, don't you think that most of current CC premium members will keep buying yearly membership as it is no brainer deal according to you?

No, because an optimum level would/will/has been reached. There are many scaled payment options around for all sorts of things. It shouldn't exist and be needless because that's bad business practice. I think it's a good idea. Freemies could try the site for virtually nothing, say 5 bucks. They'll be psychologically committed to the site then. I would expect it to improve CC's bottom line.

That's true, but I haven't seen an outcry for 20-game middle-of-the-road accounts for 83 less cents a month.

I would buy a $5 account however. I haven't been here long enough to justify $25, though it's getting there.

The problem is I will only be playing around 10 games at once, and so I derive around $5 of utility from the membership. If you used price discrimination (and it is in the site's power to do so), you would get a lot more revenue and games. That's cause all the people playing only 4 games and wanting to play 10 would do so, those who want to keep their premium membership (and there are many who value playing 100 games at a time enough) would also do so, and then the people who dont care wouldnt be affected. To say that we are paying for the access to resources is fair, but that's not a justification. From simple economic theory, there should be price discrimination (see difference between business and first class, etc etc)

When you really look at it, $25/year is a very reasonable price. The lady, and I can barely get a proper meal for that much money. If there were any different pricing levels, I would say 25 should be the minimum. Someone who's playing thousands of speed games a year, for example, is getting ridiculously good value for their money. Compared to other pay-to-play gaming sites, this one is a steal of a deal.
