Internet Relay Chat (IRC)

I know conquerclub has a built in web chat, but i dont see many people on it, not to mention that i personally find it slows my computer down a bit and the dings can get a little annoying (not complaining about anything moderators)
anyways, i have an alternative solution. I am a moderator on an IRC network, for gamers, and we would be more than happy to host new gamers. I have taken the liberty of making the general channel #conquerclub, but feel free to join and make your own clan channels if you wish
EDIT: the network name changed: irc.gamersunion.org port 6667 channel #conquerclub
for anyone who is interested but doesnt know what IRC is or how to work it properly, simply shoot me a pm on CC and i will get back to you post haste, hope to see you all there

Internet Relay Chat:
It is like a chat room. It's used by the US Government and Terrorists alike. As well gamers use it for teams to meet. It's a very simple chat.
For those of you just checking it out, you can use a website to view the chat rooms:
www.mibbit.comFor those who really get into it, you can download a program like:
www.mirc.com*The bonus of downloading a program are stability

Already suggested it months to a year back. Won't be happening for 3 reasons, none of which I can remember.

Using a quick search....
viewtopic.php?f=59&t=72505Twill wrote:Several people have attempted to start an IRC chat server for CC, many without much luck.
Here are the challenges:
1) getting nicks to pass from CC to IRC and disable /nick command
2) hosting the IRC server locally, or finding a node which will let us run the custom nick serv
3) a user interface that is not java (you'd be amazed at how many people have trouble running the java chat rooms we've tested) and is low resource use.
If you can solve any or all of those challenges, I will personally try to get the chat switched over to IRC
Twill wrote:Alright, so assume we go with mibbit.com and the phpBB integration here (
http://wiki.mibbit.com/index.php/PhpBB2_integration) or custom integration could work to pass a nick directly to the server, then we'd still need to fix the problem of changing /nick once in the channel. I think....So you've still got 1) and 2) to figure out

Mibbit looks promising though
And honestly, I don't see changing the nick as a problem. A) Once a nick is registered, whenever you "/who" the person, they're original name comes up, and B) In real time use, it becomes much more useful, for those of us that leave things on, if you're able to do a "/nick Kotaro|AFK ". Also, there is the option that moderators could have access to bots: These things stay in chat, under the nickname (using myself as an example) of "Kotaro|BNC", which monitors the chat, and as such, can be used for evidence of offensive behavior.

the network is irc.powerprecision.com and again the channel is #conquerclub

I would think that all the viruses you get on irc would slow your computer more than CC chat.

Are you retarded? Or do you just not actually know anything about irc and just typing to see yourself type?

Wow, you are really upset about this.

Nope, just curious as to why you post when you clearly have no idea what you're talking about, and why you make things up about virus's when you don't know squat.

Oh, that's all. Well why didn't you just ask?

yeah seriously dood, since when does irc give you viruses? do you know how it works? you can pick any client you want, so obviously the program itself isnt the problem, and you can join different networks, which you dont have to download to go to, so where do these viruses come from? please do explain

Well, obviously as kotaro stated above in a very rude way, I must be wrong. To answer your question, I used to use something called mirc to get wares. office and windows and stuff like that. Anyway, when you said irc I assumed it was the same thing. If you're familiar with mirc you get lots of viruses there. So that's what I thought you were talking about.

lol no, using mirc doesnt get you lots of viruses, getting wares from people gets you lots of viruses, irc isnt just about getting wares, although some people do use it to share wares, its your own fault for getting those from people, thats what gave u the viruses, it wasnt mirc or irc.

biggest problem i can think of with irc is that it exposes your ip address does it not?

depends on the ircd the network is running, ours does not show the ip to regular users, and you can also get a vhost put in place, so that when people "whois" you, instead of your ip and service provider it just says whatever you want your vhost to say

No. While the exact coding is not known to me exactly, the server bot that runs every IRC service provides a host mask if wanted. For example:
Kotaro: /mode Kotaro +x
Kotaro.user.OGameNet is now your hidden host
So, whenever someone /whois me now, it comes out as:
Kotaro is ~kotaro_fu@Kotaro.user.OGameNet * Dan S
Kotaro on @#kitchen
Kotaro using WebIRC.OGameNet.net OGameNet
Kotaro is logged in as Kotaro
*Censored*
Kotaro has been idle 32hrs 49mins 21secs, signed on Fri May 15 11:07:21
Kotaro End of /WHOIS list.
All information as which was inputted by me. The censored part is my email and IP, which I can see since, well, it's me. No one else would see that.

I would personally prefer IRC over this chat, reasons:
- I use IRC for many other things, and I usually just keep the mibbit running constantly, so I could idle in the CC room and go in when I feel like it.
- It's cleaner and easier to use.
- You can do a lot with IRC
- Clans can have their own IRC channels
As for the problems:
- Changing nick, as mentioned earlier. People can register nicks if they really want them on the irc server.
- Virus's... don't click links

The problem is, lack would like the chat to only use the username from CC so that when people mess around in chat, the mods know who it is and know to whom to send the appropriate messages.

However,
A - You can make it so that, to join offical channels, you have to be registered
B - You can monitor their name, even after they change it, with a /whois. Even if they change their nickname to "LOLTWILLSUCKSNUTS", the /whois reveals their registered names

pretty much yeah, what kotaro said. also like i said, this isnt an official conquerclub thing, im merely saying that i moderate an irc network, that has a lot of rooms, so if anyone wanted to use irc as an alternative, im providing a place for it : )

I think it should be listed as an alternative chat then somewhere on this site, to get members.

I'm all for user-generated chat room hosting---there are numerous user run forums about CC specifically or where CC is talked about. So I'd see and IRC channels working similar to those---they are separate entities outside of CC run by dedicated fans/users who are looking for a fun place to share and chat.

Btw Jugg, if you want anyone to connect to your server, you might want to throw out the port number

I would not be against people coming to my IRC channel to.
WebIRC.ogamenet.net (8060)
#kitchen
There's a number of us that are online all times in there, me (the channel owner), and 2 others that have near my power level. We play games together at times, whenever possible. Mostly team games together, but if we get more people online and in there, more will happen.
We're moderately active, though some of us have some last minute college stuff to finish up, and we're enjoying summer. Simply highlight us by stating our name, and mIRC will make a noise on our computers that will inform us of you.
