OK, what are the three maps you dislike the most and why. The rule is, you have to have played at least one game on them.

3. Battle for Iraq-just a clusterfuck, which is ironic in a way. Too many one way attacks, and I hate it.
2. Circus Maximus-boring, weird and don't know how it ever got through the foundry.
1. WW2 (combined)- this map is the definition of busy. Insets showing other territories, bombardments, weird bonuses yuck.

PS Hey map makers, don't get offended. I am not trying to slam you. That isn't the purpose of this thread. It is just to discuss what we as a community don't like in maps.

1. Montreal-Is Downtown part of Ville-Marie or not? I always get screwed on the drop in this game and there's no room for error.
2. Draknor-I cannot tell the areas apart, although the map is growing on me. I do like the one way doors.
3. San Fransisco-It's such a depressingly colored map for such a happy town.

No disrespect.*

*By writing "no disrespect" I am absolved of any hurt feelings or spite. Kisses.

Depending on the settings, I have numerous, different, least favourite maps. Pearl Harbour is absolutely dreadful for large escalating games. Egypt: Valley Of Kings, is horrible for multi-player no spoils/flat rate games. All the conquest type maps are awful for team games. A whole bunch of maps are less than ideal for 1v1.

Having said all that negative stuff, I feel I should say that there are numerous maps that work well for all setting, every setting has at least a few maps that work exceptionally well with it, andalmostall the maps work well for at least one style of game.

1. Forbidden City
2. Forbidden City
3. Forbidden City

edit: It's confusing as hell and I don't have the patience to learn it.

I did play a game on that. I blocked it out of my memory, along with Blitz touching me during that trips....

I almost started a thread like this earlier, but thought it would be too negative. Now I'm realizing there's no such thing as "too negative." Anyway ...

1. Luxembourg: I haven't played that many games on the map, but every 1v1 game I've played has been decided on the drop, as it seems way too easy to drop a bonus and have a huge advantage immediately. And the map's too small for anything over 4 players, I think. I don't really like any map where I can be knocked out before taking my first turn.

2. WWII Ardennes: I get lost every friggin' time I play this map. No idea why--doesn't look like it should be that hard. I haven't won in 8 tries; I'm not sure I'll win if I play it 80 times.

3. Duck and Cover: Because I just know that *!#*&$#! turtle is mocking me. I can tell.

well, the stipulation that you have had to of played them makes this interesting because there are many i will not play simply based on the look and gameplay... just looking at draknor, city mogul, the 2nd and 3rd age of realm maps and the way too fastly completed Puget Sound (who was the formal global mod that pushed that through because it was their home?), is enough for me to not play any of them. however, with brett's deftly worded post, these are the three i have played that are my 3 least favorite:

1. Age of Realms 1 - the first conquest map, and in my opinion a turning point towards the negative for map makers. you look at a beautiful map like New World, and know how much more fun it would be if it had regular gameplay. i wonder if they can change the code so a map like that can be played both ways.

2. D-Day Omaha Beach - just a non-sensical map. i am not sure if i am looking for private ryan or waiting for opem to bring me some more ammo while a big nazi is shoving a knife through my throat. however, that is a far better fate than having to eat the rabbits toys (whoever gets that reference can tie ballons around my "you know what".. and the person that gets the first reference will die from laughter from the second reference...)

3. Battle for Iraq - how did this get out of the foundry? played one game on it, and i still have no idea what in the hell happened or how we won...

runner up - i'd toss forbidden city in on this list, but it is just a given... blitz couldn't even tell me what the hell was going on, and that guy knows every map inside and out!

anyway, i'd like to pull a timminz and be political, but i hate these maps, period. i appreciate all the time and effort that went into them, but i simply do not like or appreciate them on any level whatsoever. however, i will state that there are FAR MORE MAPS THAT I LOVE than the few that are dead to me...-0

1. Forbidden City - I try and try to understand and like this map, but I just can't. It rubs me the wrong way. :x
2. Battle for Iraq! - Completely unnecessary complexity and unclear gameplay. It nearly bores me and makes me not care if I win or not. It's just a very busy map. ](*,)
3. City Mogul - There just seems to be no good reason for the ridiculousness of this map. Plus it looks like it was drawn on graph paper. :-s

Now there are many with graphics that just seem....outdated to put politely. And some that are just plain ugly such as Classic Shapes. But I will spare those maps the name dropping and just keep them safely in my CC diary.

john9blue's annual "Toque Blanche" awards!

Worst Idea: Solar System
I don't know why this map isn't as controversial as Doodle Earth, Crossword, Pearl Harbor, and the like. Just look at it for a sec. If you haven't turned your eyes away from all the glow effects, look at how the map is laid out. Half our solar system is shoved into one corner of the map, and the other half has the worst territory names right next to each other that I have ever seen. Charon and Chiron? 136108 and 136472? Chariklo and Callisto? The maddeningly repetitive names of the planets and the warp gates? To this day, this is the only map I have ever made territory mistakes on. And I have made several. It's Classic Shapes... in SPAAAAAACE! Fail.
Dishonorable Mention: Forbidden City, Battle For Iraq!

Worst Gameplay: Siege!
Mibi and Coleman are great guys and have made some fantastic maps, but gaah, this map is frustrating. One side has two puny countries that people always get before round 3, the other side has an instant +1 bonus and is nearly symmetrical, and the two sides are separated by ridiculous bottlenecks like the tunnel and the gate. This used to be one of my favorite maps, until I wasn't the one starting off with the throne or a camp. This and Battle For Iraq! both have exclamation points. Maybe they are compensating for something?
Dishonorable Mention: Poker Club, King Of The Mountains

Worst Graphics: Madness
I tried to put each map in the context of the time in which it was made, and didn't even count the two Classics. This map was what really made me start to lose faith in the Foundry process. I had seen better drafts in the Ideas subforum (which was for drafts at the time). From the pixelated dog to the grainy textures to the atrocious curly-cue font of the title, this map spent about a month and a half in the Foundry and seems to just be a shameless mod highlight. C'mon, guys. I can't even write something funny about this map.
Dishonorable Mention: Land And Sea, British Isles 2

NOTE: I am being really harsh because it is fun, to me. I realize first-hand how time-consuming it is to create maps. :P

Hm...Bottom 3 Favorites...

Malta -- The graphics never won me over, so I've never been really able to enjoy a game on the map.

Waterloo -- The map just isn't my style of World Domination---I'm more a standard classic-esque kind of guy.

WWII Ardennes -- Again, not my style of World Domination.

Pacman - Its like trying to play the piano on a guitar fret-board.

Poker - Its like trying to play guitar on an accordian.

This is risk. Face it. Those setups are unsuited to the "world domination" theme.

World 2.1 - Hate the graphics and find it too large to really see the whole picture during the game.

Rocket.

crosswords -- I get a headache looking at that map. And mind you forbidden city, draknor and waterloo are some of my favs.

Madagascar -- bad graphics, terrible gameplay

@ owen... I can teach you draknor doubles :)

1. Peloponnesian War - Geez this map is soo limited in settings. Not to mention tons of wasted space.

2. Battle of Iraq - This is possibly the worst map ever designed. Someone please spare me the puke.

3. Arms Race... - Just never liked this map at all.

Battle for Iraq! seems to be quite the "favourite".

Now that I've played a couple games on it, I can say for certain that I don't like the Wales map. It feels too much like the whole map is trying to be like the yard in supermax: prison riot. It's an interesting concept, but doesn't seem to translate well into practice.

I personally hate the "Rail" maps. I think my colorblindness must cause me trouble with them, because I play far more miserably on them than I do on any other map.

is that where that horrible/non-sensical gameplay comes from? one game on it was enough for me. it was such a horrific experience, i blocked it out...-0
