Eliminating your team mate is just like eliminating any other player. You get the spoils and the rest of the team continues to play. If your team wins, you still get the points.

It's actually a good strategy, specifically in escalating games. If you have been deploying on your teammate(s) and have a couple of cards but only a few armies left, it may be worthwhile for your teammate to eliminate you and turn in cards for a lot of armies.*
*May not be suitable for rookies.

I agree, it stinks, but consider the alternative: If I don't do it, my opponent will, and that could be the game.

The win is more important. The win always comes first. Never worry about if you have to kill your partner or not. Make sure you win first by whatever legal means possible. If that means killing 2 of your partners in a quads then do so.

its always great to see a team losing on quads all of a sudden kill off 3 of his teammates with consecutive cashes to push the value of the cash through the roof real quickly and take on the other team with ease.

Yes, I had a game like this a while back where we just needed to takeout a one-army team, get his five spoils and close out the win...instead, my other teammate attacked our opponent, who was then able to take out our one-army guy, turn in big and kill us off.
Sometimes attacking your own IS the best option.
