Farewell Team CC

I want to take this opportunity to thank Team CC for the great job and time they put into this site.

I have had access to the forum as an advisor for quite some time. Twill had asked me to be a mod, but I refused, because its too much fun being a real player, and did not want any real association with management. It would have meant having to be professional at all times, representative of CC, and taken abuse which comes naturally from being the MAN.

I have had the unique experience of seeing how the site is run however, and I just want to say to any that question the time the team puts in, or the incredible effort they put in to improve this site, dont. You simply cannot fathom the time they put in. They work hard to not only solve the problems we see, but many other problems.

They really haven't needed me in there for quite some time, and it was only a matter of time before they realized it. I more or less suggested just that, actually. While there, I did try to give the perspective of the players, and help get some issues resolved too, but nothing they couldn't have done without me.

In any case, Team CC is a great group of people, and they are working very hard to make CC better. Certainly mistakes will be made, but never question their devotion to the goal, and by all means, cut them some slack. Its a thankless job, and without a doubt cuts into their fun on this site. Certainly your opinions matter, even if they disagree, but don't discount their efforts to make CC better. Ive seen it first hand for well over a year or more, and they are working very hard at it.

It was a pleasure Team CC helping/watching.

Oh, and you can blame me for Much Ado about nothing.

I suppose I'll say this:

I have no illusions that moderating a major game site and forum are easy. I enjoy playing here and I enjoy the forums associated with the game, so obviously something has gone right despite the challenges, and those associated with that deserve credit.

Overall, I feel this is a good place, and that's the reason I, and others, bitch and moan about some of these issues that we see occurring from time to time. I can understand that mistakes are going to be made, but if those in charge can't take responsibility for them, or adequately explain why they aren't mistakes, then it's an issue that needs to be addressed.

I'm glad the site is around, and I hope everyone continues to work hard to improve it. I think a bit more consistency and accountability would go a long way toward making this site that much more awesome.

Agreed, it would be nice if users took accountability for their actions and posts as well.

I thought that was usually done in the form of the "vacation" euphemism.

That is the punishment, but many of those who have received that punishment claim they are a victim. How often do you actually see someone admit they were wrong. We have members with multiple infractions and punishments still claiming innocence.

You know, I just wanted to say goodbye to Team CC and point out that they work hard....I suppose digressing into mods vs players is inevitable...but does it really have to be?

If only I had my mod powers still... I never had any

Put it this way: How often do you see moderators admitting that they were wrong?

I'll tell you how often: not very.

(PS. Clapper actually admitted an error last week, that is something which I can only applaud, as it's a significant depature for our moderator's norm)

Also, the reason that you find people with multiple infractions and punishments claiming innocence, is because very frequently they are actually innocent. CC's endemic "guilty once, presumed guilty in the future" mindset frequently lands them in the middle of insane lock/warning incidents which they just don't deserve.

Are people with previous bans innocent of never having done anything? No.
Are they innocent of whatever it is that they're currently accused of? Quite possibly, and pre-judging them based on their history is precisely the sort of unfairly biased moderating practice that gets so many of this forum's users annoyed so frequently.

I mean, surely all cases ought to be judged objectively, without bringing in irrelevant considerations of past antecedents? After all, antecedents get applied at the punishment stage, do they not? They really have no bearing on whether the current incident is or isn't wrongful.

Rarely, admittedly. Don't get me wrong, I agree with the decisions for most of the punishments I've seen, despite the various carnivals of backlash, and repeat offenders are going to always be a pain in the ass. But, as moderators, I don't see how you can expect the users to take responsibility when those "in power" are not. We aren't all illogical raving lunatics. When I see something wrong, I'm going to express it in a manner that I think is positive (skirting the issues in PMs are not really my forte), and it's disheartening to see it evaded and suppressed by those who are representing the Website.

Plus, what DM said.

Bad timing on your part. I tried to be positive in my initial post.

I'm really not a 'grammar police' kind of chap, but if you can't start using commas and full stops I'm going to have to foe you. Seriously. The spelling I can just about put up with, but the lack of punctuation is actually hurting my head.

I understood your intent, AAFitz, and I'm sure that all the other members of TeamCC do as well. You were a great asset to have behind the scenes, and a great individual to be around. Your thoughts and opinions have always been appreciated.

Regards, OP

If this is indeed a thankless job...
then I would like to pause for a moment to say how much I appreciate this amazing site
and all the people who have contributed their time and effort to make it so.
Thankyou ALL so very, very, very, much.

I have also been graced with the opportunity to play Fitzy a few times, as well as read his thoughtful posts and know he will always be a welcome asset to this site.

To those unfortunate "innocent victims" of vacation time might I suggest you hold onto your DNA evidence
that you might be vindicated of your prior misdiagnosed transgressions at some point in the future.

Thanks for all the help Fitzy. You always brought something to the table that we always couldn't...no matter how much we wanted to think like a player a times, the moderation side sometimes wouldn't let us. You were somebody who was just a player and could bring a player's perspective and only a player's perspective to the table, and for that I thank you. It's not going to be the same without you in there, but I'm glad you were in there until now. I'm sure I'll see you around and ask you some questions, and maybe we'll get to play some more games sometime soon. 8-[
