Am I the only one who haven't played Classic shapes yet?

I think it looks a bit too classic, classic as in BORING, the same goes with Classic art, there's nothing complicated with any of them, very simple maps that doesn't allow much skill. Speaking of poor maps, Asia and USA also are not very well constructed. Luckily new maps have been created that aren't BORING, like Imperium Romanum, some maps of Europe, WW2 maps, Supermax: Prison Riot, the Rail maps and others. Someone should do a remake of those old maps because they're way way...way behind most maps on CC!

There are quite a few people who like those maps bud. The types of maps you like aren't the types everyone likes, this is why we have variety, so everyone is happy. If you want another map you can go help make one.

I don't know if you're forgetting that the map-makers do occasionally venture outside the Foundry...

Those two were made when the site was first created, along with the old Classic. "demonart" is the only thing we know about who made them…

lol I personally am not a fan of them because they seem simple to me, however I know that many people still like those maps and would prefer the classic map over every other map on the site.

You see, you agree with me, although you don't like it when I say it you clearly have the same opinion, that leads me to this question; are you a hypocrite? :P

No, your not special piggy. My mother, sister, two brothers, and father haven't played classic shapes yet. Then again they don't play CC. The old classic/real map, looked so much better :)

I'm special in a lot of ways Boogie, but this might not be one of them, most people will probably agree with me when I say that the old maps are simple and boring ;) !
Maybe if you go against me here you'll be special for once  .

I'm not sure if you're being intentionally offensive or not but anyway... There is actually much more skill in all the maps you mentioned than you seem to realize. Different strategies may be utilized to turn the game completely different in the Classic map depending on the settings, and some people prefer that type of gameplay. If you find it boring, don't play it. I'm sure you've had much more fun making this topic than you ever would have if you had joined a game. Oh, poo, now I feel like I would've had more fun elsewhere too.

Classic 1v1 anyone?

P.S. I enjoy all the maps you mentioned, that you DO or DO NOT like. :) It's good to see that you found some that you enjoy.

Completely true. The settings are the key to enjoying Classic Shapes. For example, I can't think of a better map to play 6-man escalating on than Classic Shapes. Gotta love Wacicha's Redman games.

They have fewer territories, no neutral territories, no bombardment, no one way attacks, no caitals, no dead spaces, no ranged attack. And the settings you're talking about are settings that can be changed on all the other maps as well! Like I said they have nothing original, there's nothing to like about them!!!!!

I'm sure you like all maps on CC equally much  , last time I checked we were talking about which maps we like, you don't need to play the role of morale grandpa and say politically correct stuff! Here's what I got to say; The old maps stink!!! out with the old and in with the new!! Execute the old maps, murder, rape and torture them :x :x !!!!!!!!!! :D

It has 42 territories, which is a decent amount. In my opinion, that's a good number for a trips game, though, of course, there are better maps.

It's old, but that's exactly what makes it "Classic." It's age is fully disclosed in the map name. At the very least you have to respect classic maps because they undoubtedly inspired a lot of the new/less old maps.

I believe it was hwhrhett who first brought to my attention the evolution of gameplay on CC, and from what I've seen, he was quite right. Without the old maps, there'd be no new maps because you need a solid foundation to build from. This is starting to get more philosophical than I had intended, so I'll cut it short here.

Absolutely! Isn't the Classic map what brought us all (or at least 90% of us) to the website in the first place?

That was quite cruel. What did the old maps ever do to you besides form the foundation for all the maps that you actually like? You owe them an apology in my opinion.

That's like saying, "Tear down the walls of the castle! They're so square and boring! Now that we have unique towers on each corner, we should just use them and forget about the stuff that's been here since the beginning!"

I like the walls, I tell you! They provide a good base to build off of. And they're not so bad themselves anyway - the vast majority of players prefer simplicity over complexity for most of their games.

How do you pronounce that guy's name hwhr-hett? it would make a lot more sense in french, it would sound like wrett :)

Well without the old maps there wouldn't be any Conquer Club at all! Becasue you can't create new maps before you have created the old ones! But I'm not saying that they haven't been important for CC's development, just simply that their time is gone and that they are on a much lower and simpler level than the newer maps! The first computers were indeed necessarily for the development of the computers we have today but no one uses the old computers anymore, we got rid of them because they were not as good as the newer computers! It's the same with old maps here on CC, Classic shapes were important once, but are seriously outclassed on all levels when competing against maps like World 2,1 and Supermax! One can say that Classic shapes is an "epic" map, but you can't compare it with many of the other maps when it comes to complexity, diversity or ability to display ones skill on. It's simply out of date!!!!!!!!

Honestly, I don't know either. In my head I do a Frankenstein-esque moan and add a "T" sound to the end.

True, but one thing about simple and "lower level" maps is that they are very good for new recruits and cooks to practice their skills. Classic Shapes, Classic Art, etc. are good stepping stones on one's way to World 2.1 and others. While experienced playes may ignore them, though I believe the vast majority still play these maps, they definitely still serve a purpose.
