Should CC fora be lacklustre and inane?

Recently a <scared xela edit> - sorry, fellow member - stated that the majority of people on CC want the fora to be lacklustre and inane, which he equated to posts only about CC. Is this true? Tell us what you think!

We could simply check what the majority of people who post post about, then we would have an empirical basis to evaluate and could possibly reach a fairly uncontroversial conclusion.

We could do that if the post content wasn't controlled. As it in fact is, we can't gain any accurate empirical evidence this way. I'd like to see what people want, not what they feel they should, post.

well seeing as how the off topics forum is like twice as big as all other fora combined, that should show you the answer

Definitely not. Then again, someone like b.k.'s or jiminski's opinion of what is "lacklustre and inane" is probably going to differ from what mine is, so I'm not sure it's a target we can reach.

in essence you are correct, i am a free-thinker and practically unoffendable. The thing is that the site, purely regarding the forums, i came to enjoy was what it was and it was great. it had potential to be even better but they have chosen the other path.

But when you change a thing people liked there will be consequences. Take note of that -it is not me who wants to make change, i only want to maintain and fine-tune the tone i have become accustomed to!
heh the uninitiated may imagine the counter from how this is being 'debated'.
Please, before you misunderstand another nuance of my post Wood, you are taking my posts to be against you somewhat and in general they are not at all, that is a general point on this not really being up for debate.

Rather it is an insidious, gradual movement to a grey and tepid forum culture .. summed up nicely in the very risque "Pick up Lines" thread which keeps good clean fun in its place and hey! it even allows a little subtle naughty talk.. within the relevant boundary of CC euphemism! .. heheh do you remember Good Morning Vietnam ... it reminds me of the guy in charge:

"Lt. Steven Hauk: Furthermore, you are to stick to playing normal modes of music, not weird stuff. Those who we'd find acceptable here would include Lawrence Welk, Jim Nabors, Mantovani...
Adrian Cronauer: ...Percy Faith...
Lt. Steven Hauk: Percy Faith... good!... Andy Williams, Perry Como, and certain ballads by Mr. Frank Sinatra.
Adrian Cronauer: Would Bob Dylan be outta line?"

No offense taken, I well understand that you and I simply view things in that regard differently.
