Fog Games Chat

I am curious to hear if there are "evolving standards" about what is acceptable in chat during fog games.
I have heard some players indicate that chatting about army locations or strength (other than what can be gleaned from the log) is "against the spirit" of the fog games and should not be allowed.
Any opinions?

diplomacy and (mis)information are just part of fog games.
ive seen people getting bitchy a few times when its revealed that 'yellow has a 15 stack sitting in cheshire!' but it is the players choice to reveal or conceal the information. perhaps yellow is going to go on a spree and win the game next round, who knows. either way.. do whatever you want and be damned. if the rest dont like it then they should probably stop playing foggy singles

some people will definately get angry about it... and i prefer to say nothing when at all possible...
but sometimes you have no choice, it will come down to
'hey if you dont fight green some he will win next turn'
of course, most good players dont need to be told these things..... so its usually only neccessary in public games.

Okay so if that is the opinion why even have fog games?
I will agree that the level of "foggieness" in the logs is somewhat spotty. However shouldn't comments be limited to that which another player could pull from the log independent of any information you can provide?

Personally, I like to lie in such situations (mis-information), but that's just me. It's really a person-by-person thing whether you think it's against the spirit of the game or not, to be honest. Some will be and some won't.

I have never revealed army locations in a foggy game and would frown upon someone doing so. I think it takes the fun out of playing in fog.

nah i dont buy that. all lack would need to do to facilitate that would be to disable chat in single foggy games, pretty much just a click of a button. as it stands its quite clear that chat is intended as another facet of a fog game and i doubt you're ever going to get an official ruling or any action on it that would indicate a change in the spirit of a fog game.

I wouldn't eliminate chat in any games. If some cheat wants to seriously break fog its a crap rating & a foe.But to stop chat? Naw.

i personnally think that it should be illegal to tell an opponant where and how much another player have troops. If they want they can play in a no fog game.
What's the meaning of the fog if you're gonna say it to another player

The meaning is that Fog can be used for disinformation or selective sharing. It can be another power lever that opponents can use for good or bad. Fog lets opponents rat you out or not. It can make it "more urgent" that you be eliminated or not.
I think most players would find it tedious to catalog a litany of everything they know every turn. But a well timed comment now and then could provide enough of an edge to turn a game.
I really don't know where I stand on this. I see both sides, but I think I lean towards. "Use fog as tool" to help you win if you can.

In my opinion chatting in a fog game and revealing another opponents situation is legit. Since you are able see the information it is up to you if you want to share it. If you think about it what is the propose of playing any game? Simple you want to win and we are all competitive. This will probably spark a lot of controversy, but it is my opinion and you do not have to agree.

I think that if you weren't supposed to say anything about your opponents' positions, it would say something to that effect on the instructions page where it describes fog of war. Because it doesn't say anything, it seems that you can give any (mis)information you want.

I don't think anyone's saying it's against the rules (which it isn't). Like diplomacy, leaking info or misinformation in a fog game is a controversial tactic. But both are definitely allowed under game rules.
