How Do You Fight an Unfair Rating?

I was given straight ones in a game, where I was the only person the player rated. I'm not the one who took the player out, but throughout the game he was rude, called me stupid, etc. He was angry because I wouldn't team up with him and another player against a stronger player. I didn't want to do that because I couldn't trust that he wouldn't turn on me. Never played with him before and I had played against the stronger player, so I knew what to expect from him. I rated the player fairly. I gave good ratings for everything but attitude, which I gave a two. The game number is 5358253. Can anyone review and tell me what I did to deserve the poor ratings?

unfortuantly all you can do is leave a response to check the game chat it is untrue. but there is one thing i'd check is his/hers ratings left to see if shes been abusing her ratings

Unfortunately ratings mean that sore losers can still be a fighting force, and there's nothing you can do about it. ;)

I like to use a mace.

Also, congrats on winning the game.

Yes, that was pretty lame of SuperSTRIKER to rate you all 1s
and give you a "poor strategy" tag for a game you won.

At least it cost him 33 points to do it.

Possible second account...he has a seriously high win percentage for the style he plays (certainly taking into account he is supposed to be a noob when he joins).

Of course he might just have experience from another site...

I just don't understand why he would have given me anything under 3 stars. I would have understood 3s if he just didn't agree with my strategies, etc. but 1s on EVERYTHING? It was uncalled for. And look at how he rates others...

Nothing to understand, he doesn't handle losing very well
and felt an unjustified need to retaliate.

I wish there was a way to block people like that from joining your games... They spoil it for the rest.

There is. Foe them. In fact, that's exactly what the foe feature is for. Try it.

I had a look at the game (briefly mind you) and I might be able to give you some illumination on it...as I also play this style.

The key of it was he felt that you should have united against green to balance the game. It seems you had a deal with green, who was the game leader. Superstriker felt this was bad play...maybe it was!

But of course the absolutely certain result of your play was that Superstriker was more likely to win the lottery than win the game...this is a given if you don't unite against the game leader, either you or him were going to win...but not superstriker!

So the combination of unorthadox play from you (or maybe noobish play, maybe you made the deal without realising the consequences?) + taking superstriker out of the running by letting green get too big (again I haven't checked the log but from a quick glance at the gamechat I can guess what happened) caused superstriker to feel you 'ruined the game'. Maybe you did...in a sense.

So he rates you all 1 stars on that basis.

Would I rate you that way for that kind of play? Almost certainly not...especially as you are a new player. But many speed players would and maybe you can see it from his point of view, at least a little bit?

Anyway, you still have a 4.7 so it surely isn't a big deal. But remember that speed games of the type you play just GENERATE bad ratings. There are always arguments in these kinds of games, mainly due to the fact that you are playing speed and so have little time to think about it. Instant decisions = mistakes.

I've had about 5 all 1 star ratings at this game and I think in all of those games I actually won. I think they've all come from the exact style of game you played. Now I'm super good and they still gave me all 1 stars so remember it is less a reflection on your ability and much more a statement of just how much your opponent hates losing.

Hope that helps,

Mr C

Thanks for the foe suggestion 72o and thanks for the insight Mr. Changsha... I didn't really have much of an alliance with anyone. I had played with one of the other players before and so knew and understood his style. My philosophy is better the enemy you know than the one you don't. I had no way of knowing how SuperStriker would play and told him so at the outset. Had I followed his instructions, I would have been vulnerable to the other players. Not to mention the fact that he didn't do anything that would put himself at risk either.

After reading the game chat, it seems that Striker was completely silent until s/he wanted something and then became kind of a jerk throughout the rest of the game. You all were having a lovely time until s/he tried to bully you. You could report for ratings abuse, if you wanted to, as Striker's ratings left shows a pattern. Nice win regardless, congrats!

you can, it is called the FOE list... i don't believe in using it, but many members do. they play people on it that they have had bad experiences with AND/OR people they have heard about in the forums... additionally, you can place people on foe and not have to read their posts in the forum... the last instance is flawed, because you can not place mods/admins on your foe list (*snicker*)...-0

p.s.-there is one poster in this thread perilously close to becoming the first person to ever be on my foe list...

Join one of his games and return the rating. Two wrongs may not make a right but it will make you feel better. ;)

No, I don't think sinking to his level will make me feel better. I've foed him and reported him for rating abuse as suggested. I'll just let it drop from there. Thanks for all of the advice everyone.

Play them again, then rate them 1 star in the section for attitude and fair play. It is what I would do if I cared that much about the ratings. I just saw that someone rated me really low in a game in all three categories. Sad, on their part. I can't imagine too many people worry about what your rating is.
