so does the person that creates the game always get 1st turn? Seems that way in a 2 person game. That's a pretty big advantage.

it's kinda sorta random. It's certainly not as random as dice rolls. But you don't automatically get to go first if you start the game.

That's why high rankers, in general, like freestyle, cuz the first person advantage goes away.

Is going first such a big advantage? In a game with many players, I would like to go first to make sure I don't get less troops than everybody else at the beginning but in a game with few players, going first isn't really that big an advantage. For me, I like to see other people's move and see what their up to and possibly copy their strats. That's probably becuase I'm still learning but still... I don't find going first or middle or last a big advantage or disadvantage. Only advantage is landing on territories that are all linked to each other and getting high numbers in 1,2,3,4,5,6 stuff.

I'm not sure if it's true, but from my experience, it's pretty random. I've been the last to join and gone first many times.

Going first in a 1v1 sequential certainly is an advantage. It's different for bigger games, though.

If you got a continent on your drop, you can get that bonus.
If your opponent dropped a continent, you can break it, and you can drop their overall land bonus too.
