Dice and bad games

Unlike other people, who think there is some nobility magically bestowed upon them because they say "gg" at the end of every match, I tend to sum up the game the way I saw it. Sometimes people take this the wrong way, as if I'm attempting to dethrone them from on high, but in all honesty, it's just an observation on the turn of events. I'll give some examples:

The dice give me a damn good rogering, such as in a current Midgard game, where I have gone 3-12 against singles in the past 4 rounds. When this happens I say "gg dice", recognising the profound effect dice had on the gameplay. Apparently, this is bad sportsmanship - I can only assume that the people who believe this also believe that ancient Israelites lived to the ripe old age of 1300.

The drop is just plain bad, such as someone dropping Australia in assic-Clay, or any game whatsoever on Pearl Harbour. Often, when I play in conditions such as these, I'll say something along the lines of "This map is a sham". According to some, this fails to recognise the amazing skill they demonstrated in clicking "Join Game" then getting lucky, which is a bare-faced affront to their extreme ability.

The map is either
  1. A nightmare (read: has "unique" gameplay, read read: you need a thesaurus to get through the first page of instructions)
  2. A field (read: Old MacDonald)
  3. A mistake (read: anyone else notice that Cheng does not actually border Yo in Forbidden City? Neither did I until I tried to eliminate someone. Silly me, I should have noticed the quarter of a pixel border there)
Games involving this usually end with me saying "fucked game - this map is a mess, someone shoudl invest in some virtual bleach". No, better not say this pi - you don't UNDERSTAND the complexities of the map, and do you know why? Because you have not been farmed enoguh on it yet. Silly pi. You need to lose points before you can gain them, to think, the audacity you carry with you, believing that there might be an iota of a chance that you would have transferable skills from playing the other 106 maps on the site. Shame, shame on you pi.

Most of you are thinking by now "Wow, pi is a dyslexic person reading about the King Cnut of England". But it cuts both ways you know. If my opponent gets screwed by any of this, I'll offer commiserations. I know what effect bad dice can have, and I'll gladly admit that my opponents bad dice, or my good dice won the game. If I get a good drop, I'll use it to my advantage, and I'll also recognise it at the end of the game - I'll say something like "unlucky dude, I got a great drop, it was always going to be hard for you". If the map is a mess, or my opponent was obviously a noob on it, I'll offer advice on how to play on it, or if I think they have potential, I'll offer to set up some team games with them to help them out.

Anyway, why am I writing this? Well, firstly I'm shit bored at work. Secondly, I'd like to know peoples genuine opinion on this. I mean, if the game is screwed up by dice, drop, or bad XML/GFX, is it really a "gg"? Is recognising that it was a shit game really that bad? Do we need to bury our heads in the sand about a bad game, just so we can pretend we are holier than thou?

You are apsolutly right.
I newer understand why people say "GG" and they lost after 4 round of incredibile bad dices. This not have nothing with good sportsmanship.
Instead "GG" i prefere to use "LUcky game for me",this is more fair.
I also use "Bad game for me" (this i use to much time, because i lose to much).
Ofcoure i dont want to say nothing abouth dices, because people only like to heard all good abouth dices.

The only reason I say Good Game after getting worked in four rounds is I don't like to sound like an asshole, unless I know or I am comfortable with the person playing. They usually recognize thier luck.

When some one puts gg after winning stunning dice cuntsantly in a game, like they've put some seriously clever strategic thought into it I normally just say 'f*ck off' in response to their meaningless and vile 'gg'.

However, I always make the best possible strategic moves in every one of my games so naturally assume they will feel blessed by my pat on the head as I wipe them off the board, so unsurprisingly I always say gg.

My 'gg' is always meant to come across in light, perky tones...I've wiped you all out now, and it wasn't all that hard, so better luck next time. See ya!

Sometimes I enjoy writing a few lines on where they all went wrong "blue if you hadn't kept pressure on Mexico for the last 22 rounds green would have been able to counter the great Mr C threat. gg." I must admit that I hope it pisses them off.

I must say I never write the old "Well it was the dice that won it for you" stuff, unlike Fc...who blamed the program (huh?) for my beating him on europa from second in the last of our occasional aristocratic battles (I like to light a cigar, open a nice bottle and have my servant fan me with a big leaf while playing Fc)...

So I say stay cool, let the bad luck wash over you and a quick 'gg' (win or lose).

If the game I finished was actually a good game (I.E. it was relatively fun to play by my standards, even if I didn't win), I'll note the game as a good game often at the end.

If I eliminate a player, I most always say "Good Game __" ---I'm not sure where this originated from, perhaps from my younger years.

I say "good game all" whether I win or lose, whether the dice were in my favor or not.

That being said, I agree with the original post and won't get upset if someone doesn't say good game back.

True Andy, I recently had a game with AndrewB of THOTA, my clans nemesis hehe, 1v1 Waterloo - it was tight all the way, then I didn't notice he had taken villages bonus - I said in game chat somkething like "Man, I screwed up then", but I qualified it later by stating it was one of the best Waterloo games I'd played, and that he was an extremely skilled player. Coming from LoW to THOTA, that's, well, it's not common. Respect is one thing - praise is another. I have no problem praising great play, but by the same token, I have no problem identifying that outside factors have rendered a game less satisfying than it could have been

if it's been a bad game, i try so very hard not to say anything as it'll just get me into trouble no doubt. ;) Either with a virtual telling-to by someone, or bad ratings. (Neither of which are things i want now.) I admit i can be a poor sport sometimes.

i guess that makes me a terrible person, right? I'll pay you back with a 5-star rating! Muahahah!

And most of the time, even if it's a good game, i sometimes don't talk at all. Take no offense to it... but sometimes I just don't like interacting with people. I get enough of that done at work! Ya dig?

maybe if we actaully knew how to rate, we'd actually be better sports about losing when people start handing out three stars

Honestly, do any of you really consider what another person types at the end of a game a justification for a crap juxtaposition?
