Yep, and I'm just going to add this as a reply. I'm not going to give the guy a bad rating, and I never had any intention of doing that. Indeed, if you check my ratings and feedback, I don't give bad ratings. I just tell people when I think they've been unfair. I posted this question here instead of cheating and abuse because it seemed dodgy. After all, if you play a game of tennis you don't suddenly announce that Pete Sampras is going to play this set for you.
I didn't like the fact that the sitter announced that he was taking over in the middle of the turn, and that he was significantly higher ranked. It wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game, it's just a courtesy thing. I was pretty annoyed when I posted the OP, and I shouldn't have been.
I shouldn't have questioned whether it was cheating or not, but it does still rankle a bit. I do think that account sitting should be announced before turns are played. And I do think that players who miss turns should at least acknowledge that they've done so. I'm not interested in an excuse, but a quick acknowledgment is kind of nice.
