3 player games, are they even worth playing?

Generally I try to avoid situations where the game gets down to the three players because what usually will happen is that the two weaker players will gang up on the stronger one. This goes around and around until someone makes a mistake or gets bad dice.

So I don't really see the point in playing 3 person games, where this situation is present from the get go.

Is there anyone out there who actually plays 3 players games?

This is why I avoid flat rate and no spoils games as much as possible. I stick with escalating mostly, or flat rate team games.

Right, if I play 3 Player Games...I'll usually stick to these settings. More often than not I like 4-5-6 players the best, or a good old 1vs1.

I usually play Private 3 ways, invite ever-so-unpopular mods, and a close friends.

Don't ever actually talk about it, but they're hatred shows ingame :D

(and I usually lose too ;_;)

Usually. Sometimes it is nice to experiment. ;) Sometimes it is also nice just to have a shorter game, which 3 players can provide. But for the most part I tend to like a little bigger or smaller games.

I won't play 3-player for this exact reason. I'd consider it on a map like Feudal War with fog, but that'd be about it.

3 players on lux or doodle can be fun. I tend to like 5 player games best.

Not that i'm a very experienced player, but i must say that I enjoy 3 player flat rate speed games. A 4-5 player speed is perhaps even more fun, but it takes quite a while longer to finish. If i've got an hour or two to spare, but not much more, 3p seems to be the way to go.

Good for speed, OK for escalating and it can work in fog. But few things are more satisfying than clearing the board after a no-spoils game has got stuck at 3 or 4 players for months: all those weeks of frustration released in one glorious moment.

I find that 3 player Terminators are fun. Who will play conservatively and wait to get the last kill? Who will be super suicidal and try and take out the highest ranked?

I have played the grand sum of 23 three-player games during my time here at CC. The only one that sticks out as a particularly good game was a foggy game on World 2.1 (Game 2383919).

Part of me wonders if 3-player games work better in the fog, purely because it's less obvious who the game leader is?
